when Republicans are in office so don't think that this is a problem that is unique to Kansas. While few states actually take money out of the retirement systems, what I've seen is that some states will borrow against the retirement funds while others will choose to postpone or not make annual contributions to their retirement systems.

The kick the can down the road approach by Republicans who control general budgets is short-sighted and ends up costing state government even more in the future since the retirement systems lose the investment income. A few states have a mandatory contribution written as amendments to their state constitutions

Considering that state employees are generally paid 20%-25% less than their peers in the private sector the employees deserve the right to know their retirement income is secure.

Here's the deal with our Republican Gov Sam BROKEback. He's been playing this game since 2012. Back then him and Republicans in the Kansas legislature voted on income tax em..."reform" on businesses---Corporate,LLC etc and they gave them a ZERO tax rate--Trickle down to the MAX.

He also claimed that regular taxpayers would get the same zero tax rate in a year or so--which was nothing but a Trump style carrot to get everyone on board, of course it never happened. He also claimed how it would be a "shot of adrenalin" as Companies far and wide beat a path to Kansas. TOTAL BULLSHIT, it's never happened in almost five years now and it never will. What DID happen was many partnerships such as Law firms, farming enterprises etc.... RUSHED out and got them a quick LLC (costs almost nothing) and now THEY pay no State income tax. There's your job "growth" for you. Bill Self, basketball coach at KU who makes MILLIONS formed an LLC for his income outside of what the University of Kansas pays him.

Fast forward four going on five years AND two sales tax hikes later and this State is going bankrupt. Our fiscal year ends in June,by law we have to have a balanced budget and we need $350 million by the end of June. By June of next year we need about $550M putting us close to a BILLION $$ in debt because of TRICKLE DOWN economics.

This CLOWN of a NEO CON Gov has ROBBED everything and looked under couch cushions for money. The KPERS deal AGAIN by the vote of Republicans who always have the majority in our legislature voted to delay a payment to that retirement fund of $95 million until 2017 just make the books look a bit better. Guess what, yeah you guessed it,now they want to DELAY payment to it again. This is the RETIREMENT fund for teachers,State employees etc. Brownback doesn't consider it stealing,why... it's just a payment (soon to be TWO payments) that's been put off for eh..."awhile". Democrats last year voted against it knowing full well it's just another shell game--and of course were shot down by votes.

This REPUBLICAN Gov has LOOTED KDOT--Dept of Transportation for YEARS. They cancelled 20 road projects coming up for bid this spring for work to start this year and have completely canned another 30 or so because there isn't any money. All they have the cash to do is pound some asphalt in potholes. He's ripped off our road/highway maintenance system for almost a BILLION $$ to his Corporate masters (Koch bros) and many others can pay zero taxes. The SIMPLE thing to do would be just roll back those tax cuts that all these Corporations get,but nope....Brokeback won't yield. This is the same IDIOT that Trump might pick for agriculture sec. We hope he does so he's out of our hair.

Those of us in Kansas have been watching this latest version of Republican trickle down DESTROY this State year by year. We've had and exclusive front row seat for almost five years to EXACTLY what Trump wants to do as did Reagan,Bush.old and Bush.IDIOT. Brownback doesn't leave office until two years from now,but thankfully he can't run again. We're in deep $hit in this State and Republicans just set around watching us spin down the drain.

What are they selling to, or doing for the people that keeps them in office? Your senate has 31 Rep senators to 9 Democratic Senators. Kansas House of Representatives has 85 Republicans to 40 Democrats.

Surely if the state is going downhill the people have no one to blame except for the Republicans. So why do they continue to vote for them?

This State hasn't gone for a Dem President since Johnson and that was probably because NUT JOB Goldwater was running. If I remember right Kansas only went for FDR twice, and then resumed voting for the SAME bunch who caused the Great Depression. Guess they wanted FDR to turn the whole thing on a dime.

This last election some of the Rep hard liners were voted out for more moderate Republicans and a few Dems got the job but not enough for a majority. This ENTIRE fiscal DISASTER is on the hands of republicans in this State.

Oh...btw,last time out paper did some digging about 70% or so of all members of the Kansas legislation OWNED their own business--hence they voted themselves a ZERO tax rate.
