Here's my plea just one more time

An upside down American flag is not a sign of disrespect. It's a signal of distress.

There are well known authors and TV people who are either members of, or regularly read, DU. There are almost a quarter of a million of us registered here. Imagine if tens of thousands of inverted American flags appeared here on, or leading up to Inauguration day. And imagine if it were printed or publicized in publications, online, or perhaps on TV. Trump's evil elves would not fail to pick up on it.

And imagine if DU became one of the targets of Trump's tweet attacks. Wouldn't it be great if we made it to Trump's "enemies list." And/or to be despised by countless wingnut crazies. We could all proudly wear these things as a badge of honor.

We're in deep shit and we can't be complacent about it. There's not a whole lot many here can do. But at a very minimum, you can change your avatar for Inauguration day and the days leading up to the coronation of this orange madman.

You may march, donate, bitch, scream and live in frustration. But you can also change your avatar for a while.

Every day, I get appeals for money from the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Move on, and many other liberal organizations. Unfortunately, I just can't afford to donate very much.

But we can all change our avatars and that costs nothing. It's a free form of protest. Imagine DU displaying tens of thousands of inverted flags in protest.

C'mon gals and guys. Just do it.

10. Have been seeing this request for awhile and I have comment.

I think this is something that those who feel that it may do something to combat the craziness that we are all heading towards and it may symbolic of that effort then they should go ahead and make that effort.

Then there are those who may feel that their "identity" may be imperil if they lose their avatar for this effort. Please be aware that this increasingly symbolic request may actually threaten others and may turn them away.

DU was hacked a few months ago. However, we have been assured that the hack did not break through to our actual identities.

Perhaps yes. Perhaps no.

Nonetheless, temporarily changing your avatar to a sign of distress, will not betray anything about you that may or may not have already be hacked.

Being a member of DU is offensive to those who are about to come into power. And they really don't give a rat's ass what your avatar is. Belonging to DU makes you the enemy of the incoming administation, even if your avatar is Trump Tower with an image of Jesus overlaying it.

Please, try to understand this. By being members of this site, we, all of us quarter of a million DUers are "the enemy" of Trump, his evil elves, and all who back him.

Wear this "enemy" designation as a sign of honor. And don't worry about them finding out who you are. If they want to do that, they will and there's no way to stop them.

Be proud of who you are and what it is you believe in. And fuck them and the horrors they want to impose on us.

And one more thing. If you fear for your loved ones, perhaps it's time to head for Canada or elsewhere. We are abou to enter a very ugly period in America.

Having said all that,take care of your loved ones. Be well. And keep the faith.
