Snowflake? Is this a thing?

Some jackhole on another site just called me a "snowflake." I replied: Brother, I'm from Minnesota. When snowflakes stick together, they can put a serious hurt on your ass.

"Snowflake"? When did that become a thing?

Special snowflake (assuming thats the one you meant) has been around...I wanna say at least 4 years I've personally seen it bandied back and forth, and I'm usually slow on new labels. I've got a .gif of it flashing on a background from 2012 or 2013 at the very latest, so at least that long.

Anywho. It picked up a lot after Tumblr became the hangout for the SJZ-inclined (that's zealot, as opposed to the more common and vaguely good-sounding 'warrior' - most of these people are far from good), and now again that the firewall of media censorship is on the ropes. It'll be around a while; it's a preferred insult right now, along with 'hurrdurr I'm an attack helicopter'.

At my age I am a damned avalanche, not some delicate, fragile snowflake. They (Trump supporters) tend to use it for anyone who they think needs the government's, or Mommy and Daddy's, help in order to survive.

If you are a Democrat, you are a Snowflake whatever your age to them.

Trigglypuff too. I dunno, some dumb thing about triggered.....

It means you think you are special and you are fragile and weak like a snowflake. It's a thing unsuccessful, overly sensitive, thin skinned men say to mask their abject fear of reality and feelings of inferiority. It keeps the nihilism at bay for a few seconds when they yell the insult at people who having a moral center. The irony is that they are the ones who are too weak to contemplate a multicultural future where they will have to compete on equal ground with women, LGBT, POC and whoever else doesn't fit into their regressive 1950s fantasyland. It's seriously dumb and only seriously dumb people say it.

Oh, I just found out that there is this blue pill/red pill meme they like from the Matrix movie too, a movie written and directed by two trans women about a white guy brought to reality by a black man and a woman. Did I mention they were stoooooopid?

... and "snowflake" refers to their inevitable jeers and taunts that we're all "crying libtards who need a safe space and our coloring books."

And when I debate these rotten pukes online I relish telling them: "Ain't no snowflake here, cupcake and nobody is crying. I'm a brawling debater who LOVES the fight and is going to be rubbing your faces in your hero's excrement as he backs away from promise after promise after promise. So bring it, assholes, and enjoy getting beaten over your head with facts until you actually learn something!"

For some strange reason they all invariably run away, usually with the typical whines that I'm not "worth" their time.

Which will be exactly how Trump resigns before July!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Snowflake
Generation Snowflake, or Snowflake Generation, is a term used to characterize young adults of the 2010s as being more prone to taking offense and less resilient than previous generations, or too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own. It is considered derogatory. Some sources attribute the characteristics ascribed to Generation Snowflake to methods of parenting and education, particularly those that focus unduly on boosting self-esteem.

It has been suggested that "Generation Snowflake" is derived from the term "snowflake", which has been used to make reference to parents reportedly raising their children as "special" and "precious" snowflakes. This usage of "snowflake" may originate from Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel Fight Club, which became a hit film in 1999. Both the novel and the film include the line "You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake."

1999? I didn't start seeing that word used until the last four years or so.
