We know:
Trump is a petulant, spoiled, brain damaged, borderline personality disordered infant
He surrounds himself with suck up sycophants
They all spill lie after lie after lie
They gaslight constantly as a strategy
He was elected by at most 30% of the eligible voting public
His election is nearly certainly illegitimate
This is something totally new that the media seems ill equipped to handle
And....it probably doesn't matter anyway, because of a toxic combo of apathy (non-voters), changes in voting rights, and teflon brain (among his followers).
Money always seems to eventually overcome politics (the weak hands being played by many that are supposedly on our side)
Where does this leave us?
I go back and forth on what is to be done - clearly there is energy (the wonderful protest marches), there are a few in the media doing their jobs (Slate, TPM, a few others sprinkled about). We could monitor everything that comes out of Trump and his minions' mouths and blast the media with the lies so that hopefully they would report on what they clearly seem to be missing. We could work bottom up, the most passionate and able among us jump into politics ourselves, start change from the bottom up....and so on...
But all of that takes time and money - and I am afraid that the destruction now going on in full view, brazenly - and seemingly unstoppable - will set us back so far, cost lives....
How will this story end? Seeing what's going on and knowing what's going on doesn't seem to be leading to any tangible - and hopeful - solutions.

(12,051 posts)both to keep us solvent and flexible, and to be able to be cash-ready to help family, too. I've dumped all plans to travel Europe, for example -- firstly, health problems would make travel less fun anyway, and now Trump -- nah, don't need to travel.
Last year we took a 3-month driving trip from the east coast to the west, and around the western states. I've mentioned it here before, but most of the small towns we drove through seemed blasted and worn out, not prosperous at all. When we traveled 30 years ago, most small towns seemed prosperous and busy. It is THIS problem, which neither the Democrats or Republicans can seem to fix, that is vexing so many citizens today. If you let large swathes of the country decay, nothing good will come of it. And now we have a president who REALLY couldn't care less. The chips will fall where they may and god help us all. Maybe it will return people to reality.

(13,110 posts)The EVIL Republicans have COMPLETE CONTROL.
They destroy everything they touch.
They can not win elections without lying, cheating, and conning the misinformed and the uninformed.
Their intention is to turn America into a police state Theocracy run by Wall Street.
Fox 'news' and Breitbart will help them to accomplish this.
The new Christian 'religion' that worships money will help them accomplish this.
It is frightening and sickening to watch these EVIL people destroy America.
