As the article mentions it doesn't mean the pipelines will go ahead right away because there are still battles to be fought. But this executive order puts the wheels back in motion after they died under Obama.

Given this spans Canada - how can he make such a demand?
Also, Given this involves a private effort - how can me make a private company do this for what is ostensibly a private company project?
Wouldn't this start a trade war with Europe and China?
part of the "10,000" jobs which were lost were because we could not compete against the rest of the world because our steel mills were not automated and the output cost too much. If the intent is to make them competitive, then the money should be spent automating them - a one time project like this won't bring in too much work as the volume is just not there.
