Every. Day. This. Week.
I've been outraged anew by Trump and his cronies.
I think I'm going to have to find some better coping mechanisms to get through this.

(46,166 posts)After contacting members of Congress and local reps I'm coping by sewing for a charity which focuses on preemies and babies in need. Sewing newborn hats, burp cloths and pint sized easy-peasy quilts eases my mind and does something tangible for those who didn't ask for this mess.
Also, this week I'm setting up ongoing donations for organizations on the front lines. Planned Parenthood, ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center and just added The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). The list is growing. My monthly donations may not be enormous but hopefully they'll be droplets in a tsunami.

(111,359 posts)It's not like you're actually being informed, you know. That alone will drop your blood pressure a few points and has the added benefit of denying a warm body to advertisers on infotainment shows trying to "normalize" all this bullshit.
Realize that things are going to have to get really dystopian before they change and that they will. Remember the last bastard who got into office on a wave of hateful populism--Nixon--and realize that the whole country cheered when he was out. Even fools weren't being fooled by the time he left.
Remember, none of this shitstorm is your fault. That alone confers great peace of mind.
Buy some popcorn and treat yourself to real butter for it. You're going to need it.

(2,593 posts)I do keep tabs on what's happening via DU and Twitter.
Life is complicated by family health issues and getting ready to relocate due to those issues. I'm easily rattled by uncertainty these days and these are very uncertain times.
When I step away I can objectively see that I, by myself, cannot stop this madness. (Being a control freak, I hate that fact.). However, I must contribute in some way to the resistance. I feel an obligation to do that.
"Stronger Together", right?

You'll love it if you're a Dem-- It's not the usual watered down bio-flick either.

(63,221 posts)hours of sleep, my dreams are so stressful and filled with anxiety that I wake up feeling more exhausted than if I hadn't slept at all. I have constant tension headaches and muscle tension and my stomach is a mess. This is really taking a toll on me mentally and physically.

(2,593 posts)have been plaguing me since the election. I just have to remind myself of the need to remain strong and well as we will be sorely needed when we finally come through on the other side of this nightmare.

(2,367 posts)I don't know how we will get through 4 years of this.
Thank goodness I am going to spend time this weekend with my new grandson...he is the only thing making me smile right now.

(15,224 posts)I mean that. Literally. We must stick together. This is going to be a painful time, but it's going to be a fantastic growth period for Democrats. No, I'm not excited about having to endure it, but I do see potential from it.
We are going to learn to prioritize and to get over the petty squabbles. Is Melania an abused wife? Who cares when Trump is deporting families. We've got to get lean and mean.
We are going to have to also learn to fight fire with fire.
We must focus on the important points and do what we can where we can when we can.
