When I suspect but I am not sure:
You voted for Hillary if for no they reason to keep Donald out of the Whitehouse, correct?
I ask this of those who are now posting their horror about tRump yet I suspect didn't vote for her.
I think it's a more than fair question.

(51,076 posts)Bernie was but as soon as she was our Nominee I made damn sure I would vote for her. Same for my wife. Hillary got both our votes
I think Hillary was her first choice but we don't really talk politics nor religion. Its her choice not mine to make for her, likewise her for me.

(65,168 posts)We both preferred Sanders, just because his ideas were more outside the box, but once the primaries were over, there was no doubt for whom either of us were voting. Hillary vs ANYBODY, meant Hillary. I didn't vote to keep Trump out. I voted FOR HRC.

I hope they are happy now. I am sure Trump is doing everything they could ever dream of, for the environment.

(30,481 posts)I can understand people on the left taking some issue with the party. But this cycle was a no-brainer. Stein was a horrid candidate that didn't represent the left in any way this cycle. She then went on to scam people out of millions. The true amount she scammed people for will never be known due to how she siphoned money to other organizations. A true scam artist. The group you mention are about self. They are far from anything that could be considered left on the political spectrum.

(65,616 posts)Same people. I will just go back to ignoring it, like most people do. I saw you comment, so decided to comment as well. What is sad is anyone that would support Trump in any way, shape or form. I don't see how he can last without stroking out, this is just the beginning.
Bush and Obama stayed in shape, Trump is in no shape.

(46,179 posts)remember when "Democratic" Underground billed itself as a place for the left. Of course, party ALWAYS Trumped issues, and it has always censored itself to favor partisanship, but still. Originally, the site was open to people who were not Democrats, and some of those earlier members remain.
It's an interesting effort to try to purge people based on outing their votes and their "Democratic" credentials.

(2,771 posts)but she was my final choice. I might get flamed but as a Bernie supporter I became annoyed with how long he kept dragging along and not giving up the ghost. It started to feel like it was more about him than the revolution he wanted. Anyway as flawed a candidate as she was I fully supported her and felt that we'd keep heading in the right direction, albeit a little slower than it would have been with Bernie.
Honestly a vote for her to keep Trump out or a vote for her because you are a true Hillary die hard is all the same thing in the end; a vote cast for her to be president. I have no problem with voting 3rd party but sometimes you have to take a good hard look at where things are and where they could be. That time was Nov 8th 2016 and some people absolutely failed to recognizing the danger Trump and his demagoguery posed. All of them and I do mean ALL OF THEM are just as complicit in the destruction that's coming as Trump himself is.
I really don't care if you are Republican, Democrat, Independent or an abstainer. A vote not cast
for Hillary in the 2016 presidential election was one cast for chaos, entropy, ignorance and the end of America as the leader of the free world. There is no explain this away, no consolation prize for your noble ideals and ideologies being voiced. Nothing except the personal knowledge you were a "historic" part in electing White Nationalists, Conspiracy theorists and Religious (in name only) Zealots into power to usher in this countries undoing.
The first 5 days Trump has been in office have been awful beyond words and the entire world is pissed at us EXCEPT Russia who'll happily stab us in the back (AGAIN) first chance they get.
Every single one of the people I've described have forever brought themselves an exile from the adults table of political discourse. From the looks of how things are starting to shake out America is going to soon find itself sitting at the political children's table as well.
Thanks Trump
Thank to you too Non Hillary Voters

(37,428 posts)That was my thinking right up to Election Night. Even a few months before Sanders' announcement, I firmly believed that there would be no Obama to put her inevitability in doubt. The Republicans were a bunch of indistinguishable, uncharismatic toads, and Trump a buffoonish dilettante who would tease but never even announce, much less build a campaign or win the primary.
Her Inevitableness being a bit too well-connected to Wall Street, and it being her turn, and the whole dynasty thing? Yeah, I get someone's making the same assumptions I had deciding to cast protest votes. What harm would it do when Clinton was just going to be crowned anyway? They didn't know, like me, that the general election was going to be a game of inches. I happily shifted support from Sanders to Clinton as the primary wound down, but I can understand how someone else might decide otherwise.
Why don't I hate them? Because these liberal people could have made that choice out of an honest desire to steer our politics in a different, more equitable direction. If I were going to hate, I would start with the tens of millions who chose the candidate of fear and ignorance, or the tens of millions who could have voted but couldn't be bothered.
No, the honest, well-intentioned liberals who thought they had the luxury--privilege, maybe--of a protest vote are kicking themselves publicly or in private, and doing a much better job than I could. They will be more inclined to vote along with us next time, or will be considering it. And now that the dust has settled, we see that there were many, many forces arrayed against a Clinton victory. The few protest votes were statistically insignificant next to the dumbass Trumpists, Republican loyalists, non-voters and the disenfranchised.
Assuming there are more elections, what we have is a disaster-tunity. The influence of Big Money is not yet insurmountable in the Democratic Party, so there's more visible eating of our own, and railing against potential allies. We will try to put these things aside as the real work of winning votes presents itself.
As you say, chaos won an election. If the resulting misery and death do not make Democratic victories easier, our party and the Republic are already dead.

(37,428 posts)The Hillary-as-Grendel mythology took decades and billions of dollars to construct, and even in the face of Trump disasters, his supporters won't all be eager to admit they were wrong.

(2,771 posts)but they absolutely did not recognize the threat and absolutely deserve to feel as bad as they possibly can about not casting a vote that mattered. The old adage that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is a perfect fit for the situation. We're on that road because enough people just HAD to have their "well-intentioned" protest vote. Fat lotta good that does us when voters rights are stripped away from the bedrock of the Democratic Party. That protest vote is going to matter oh so much when the voting Democrat is a permanent minority.
A vote for Hillary was
A vote FOR Women's Rights
A vote FOR Civil Rights
A vote FOR Voter Rights
A vote FOR LGBTQ Rights
A vote FOR clean air, water, food
A vote FOR simply every good managed during the Obama Administration
A vote FOR more positive things than I'll list.
These folks when ahead and voted against all of it to satisfy their own ideological leanings. Well, it's their right, but this time it comes with a seat at the political kiddy table. Own up and let's get moving in the right direction before we get to the final stop on this trip. We are in for a bad trip and its going to take every single American that doesn't have the means along for the ride. That includes the damnable Trump voters who have voted hate over reason. Not just this time but every time, again and again under the guise of whatever dog whistle the Republicans choose to use against them.

(54,065 posts)I know what we were up against. She was not a good campaigner and too many of my 20- something friends just expressed such an instinctive dislike for her. I didn't get their dislike, but I couldn't shake them from it.
Now a few of them expressed regret for not voting for her. But I don't have time for I told you so.
There is a forest fire raging across our government, destroying a lot of old growth, destroying a lot of ecosystems of governance. we do not have the time to sit around debating how the forest fire could have been prevented. Our home is on fire. We need everyone to step up and resist and save whatever habitats we can.
Personally I do not give a damn who anybody voted for at this point. If someone who voted for Trump himself is willing to resist the forest fire, I welcome them as brothers and sisters in the cause.
If you want to play these McCarthyist loyalty games, please get the fuck out of the way. We need unity, not recrimination.

(2,771 posts)A lot of this stuff is just a lot of hot air and bluster until they start funding it. If we the liberals and progressives, continue on together. We can at least slow the slide until we can start heading uphill again. Pests and vermin don't operate very well in the light. As long as there is light being cast on this roaches they'll slow their roll. The above poster is right about not holding inquisitions about who voted for who. Nerves are raw right now, but they are closing up quickly enough. We'll be alright, eventually anyway.
I don't give a damn either as long as we saddle up and ride together. This is what those damn Republicans keep doing. They won't even consider voting for anything but a gun loving, pro life, fiscal (in name only), bible thumping (also in name only), steal everything, Republican. They do it over and over again despite the fact that the result is almost universally against them.

Actually, I became a little more excited by Hillary the longer that I studied her. I became convinced that she'd be more progressive than her husband.
Nevertheless, I voted earlier in a general election (for Hillary and all Democrats) than I've ever done because Trump is clearly a dangerous man-baby.
