I know many on DU don't care for sports analogies, but...

The Democratic Party needs a Chicago Cubs' Jason Heyward, game 7 moment.

The Cubs looked like there were about to blow it once again when Rajay Davis tied the game up with a late inning homerun. Every suffering Cubs fan had that same, sick feeling for the millionth time. AND then a mircalous rain delay happened.

On his own, Cubs CF, Jason Heyward, ordered everyone into a weight room and told his teammates that they had come too far and accomplish that too much to give up. They were not dead: We Can Do This!

After the rain delay, the Cubs came back with 2 runs and broke 108 years of suffering by winning game 7 and tbe World Series.

I want someone in the Democratic Party to be Jason Heyward! Pull your fellow Senators and Reps into the weight room and tell the Democratic Party has fought too hard to let Trump and the GOP destroy America. COME OUT UNIFIED AND SWINGING! WE CAN DO THIS BECAUSE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC IS ON OUR SIDE!

state legislatures. They control the Executive and Legislative branches on the federal level. If you think "a moment" will turn all of that around then you totally miss the point IMO. Organizing efforts take a long time and commitment over the long term.

and not exactly an honest an upfront one. Does extreme gerrymandering, voter suppression, and vote count tampering ring a bell?

Using a sports analogy, it's like the Yankees handpicking--and paying off--the umpiring crew and, during the game, no matter what the Red Sox did, the calls consistently go against them--even if the 3-2 pitch is high and outside, the ump would call strike 3.

I'd just rather go down fighting and standing for something than pretending we can work with these criminals or shrugging and saying, "Oh well; what can we do?"

The analogy is about having a fighting spirit!

The Red Sox get tired of all the calls going against them. The manager argues with the home plate ump about why his runners are called out at the plate when the runner was safe by a mile.

Then the ump ejects the manager and the players come to his defense, bumrushing the umps in the process.
