WE HAVE LOST OUR SOUL

When we make it a national policy to discriminate based on religion;
we have lost our soul.
When we accept bigotry and racial antagonism;
we have lost our soul.
When we close our doors to the "homeless, tempest, tossed",
we have lost our soul.
When we wink at our leader groping women, being a misogynist;
we have lost our soul.
When we accept an alternate set of facts;
we have lost our soul.
When the lamp beside the "golden door" is dimmed,
we have lost our soul.
Most of all when we have elected a leader who is racist, nativist, misogynist and cruel;
we have lost our soul.

To the rest of the world, I apologize for many of my fellow Americans. Part of it maybe my fault. I knew fully well immigrating to the US and becoming a U.S. citizen, that democracy and justice takes constant vigilance and activism. I let myself become complacent during the Obama years. I didn't work as hard as I could have in defeating Trump. I didn't believe that he could ever become president.

To the world, I apologize for letting you down. Please know that there are many of us here, who grieve for what is happening. There are many here who are searching their souls for what could have been done differently in order to have changed the outcome of the election. There are many of us here who stand in solidarity with those locked out of our country for religious and racial reasons.

Finally I ask as a citizen not only of the US, but as a citizen of the world, to keep watching. Document the sin of our nation. Call out injustice to the American people and help us to right this wrong.

With thoughts of peace and civility, I pray we make it through this together!
