Montana State University pitches Romney Hall to lawmakers
Montana State Universitys president pitched legislators Friday for $28 million to renovate Romney Hall, saying it would create MSUs most heavily used classroom building, help students graduate on time and prepare them for jobs, jobs, jobs.
President Waded Cruzado told the Joint Subcommittee on Long Range Planning that Romney would be rebuilt to create 18 classrooms enough seats to teach more than 1,000 students per hour and more space for the crowded Veterans, Writing and Math centers.
MSU has already spent $2 million from its reserves for architects to design the renovation so that, if the Legislature provides the funds, construction could start by July 1. The building would reopen by January 2019.
It is critically needed, Cruzado said.
House Bill 14, which the governor has proposed as the Jobs in Montana Act, calls for $292 million in infrastructure projects, from roads and bridges to schools and water and sewer systems. The committee heard testimony Friday for Romney Hall, the Southwest Montana Veterans Home and Montana Historical Society Heritage Center.
