3. a clique, as in artistic, literary, or theatrical circles.
verb (used without object), caballed, caballing.

The only problem I have with using it is that the origin is from the kaballah:
cabala
or cabbala, kabala, kabbala, kabbalah
[kab-uh-luh, kuh-bah-]
Word Origin
noun
1.
a system of esoteric theosophy and theurgy developed by rabbis, reaching its peak about the 12th and 13th centuries, and influencing certain medieval and Renaissance Christian thinkers. It was based on a mystical method of interpreting Scripture by which initiates claimed to penetrate sacred mysteries. Among its central doctrines are, all creation is an emanation from the Deity and the soul exists from eternity.
2.
any occult or secret doctrine or science.

(99,711 posts)10. How about the "fascist junta in Washington" ?
csziggy
(34,137 posts)13. Junta has a military connotation
While there are people in 45's cabinet and close circle that are military, this is not a military coup.
Cabal does fit - "a small group of secret plotters, as against a government or person in authority."
So I'd go for "fascist cabal in Washington."
