Jimmy Carter Accuses U.S. of 'Widespread Abuse of Human Rights'

A former U.S. president is accusing the current president of sanctioning the "widespread abuse of human rights" by authorizing drone strikes to kill suspected terrorists.

Jimmy Carter, America's 39 th president, denounced the Obama administration for "clearly violating" 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, writing in a New York Times op-ed on Monday that the "United States is abandoning its role as the global champion of human rights."

But the U.S. has not been "the global champion of human rights" for quite some time.

Which other US president can say that?! His Nobel Peace Prize was decades too late in coming.

I'm not going to rip President Carter for doing what he does. He hasn't changed his stance on these sort of issues in his life and he's not going to now. I don't think this is really going to change many minds and it's not a weapon for the Republicans. I can't see a Bagger invoking Jimmy Carter as someone to listen to for any reason.

As far as Mr. Carter's comments go, I wonder when this country ever was a true champion of human rights. When was this day he longed for? Our founding document allowed human trafficking and then we go ahead and continue to slaughter the remaining indigenous people to the point that they no longer have any say in what goes on in their country and you know the rest.

When were we ever champions of anything but bullshit? We're great at the lip service and propaganda but terrible on following through.

I believe all the international accords we have entered into are mere window dressing, lies. However, I'm never offended by President Carter speaking about treaties and International "Acts" because he has been the only President in my lifetime that actually believes in that shit. The others (Nixon-) clearly did and do not.

So, go ahead and shout it out Mr. President.

The least phoney politician that I've seen.

As long as the United States has the military capability and the funds to use that capability to kill people it deems an enemy of the state, it will continue to do so.

to assassinate any one at any place on the earth at any time for any reason, no matter the collateral damage inflicted. It goes with the territory 'cause: who's gonna question or stop us with these large cannons on our hips.
