True Detective actor Matthew McConaughey thinks its time Hollywood embraces Donald Trump. After all, he is the President of the United States for the next four years.
In an interview with ChannelFi, the 47-year-old actor was asked by the interviewer about Trump. Every single American actor or arty type who comes over to London dumps on Trump. You all completely hate him. Do you think its time that maybe Hollywood and the cultural elite of America gave this guy a break?
The Oscar winner replied, Well, they dont have a choice now. Hes our President. And its very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that weve ever had. At the same time, its time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years.

(11,804 posts)But he's really turned it around the last few years. He's still capable of doing terrible work, but he's done a number of movies and, well, True Detective, that I thought were really good.
But I don't get really see any value in political opinions from celebrities for the most part - if they make a good point that's nice, but they really aren't any smarter than the rest of us.

I give him a break on this. I get what he's saying - even though it glances over how he got there and normalizes him - but I've always thought McConaughey seems like a pretty cool guy to hang out with.
The Lincoln commercials - I have no idea what's going on there.

If dormant activism awakened and became mainstream again, shouldn't that be kind of a neon sign?

(35,090 posts)Well, the children of immigrants who grow up here from the time they were in diapers and only know the language here are Americans and well, it is cruel and unusual to send them to a community where they have no connections, in a country they know nothing about, and that speaks a language they do not know.
Well, the men, women, and children who are fleeing from Daesh are refugees and sending them back to Daesh is the same as gift-wrapping human sacrifices to the group.
Well, transgender people exist and they aren't abnormal or dangerous.
