BOYCOTT SUPERBOWL

I do not want to listen to trump being interviewed before the game.

I do not want to engage in abject consumerism while immigrants are being banned from our country.

I do not want to sit for four hours staring at a TV while Native Americans are being rounded up like criminals for not wanting their water source poisoned with toxic sludge.

I do not want to watch a sport that has ignored and lied about the seriousness of concussions and the very real jeopardy it creates for young minds.

I don't give two shits about American football. My point was that there are more important things to focus our time, energy and money on than this nonsense. My main hang-ups are two-fold: to deny trump another venue to vent his hatred and the NFL's denial and now foot dragging related to concussion injuries from tackle football and the very real harm it does to young minds and NFL players alike.

I played American football for a season in high school. The difference given that one sport over others and over academics is stunning.
In Allen, TX they built a $60 million high school football stadium. There wasn't a better use of $60 million dollars in that school district? No one thought of astronomy? Physics? Robotics? Engineering?
Futures are built on strong minds, not bashing in heads out on a field.
It's everything that is is wrong with America boiled down to a single sport: glorify combat and aggression and ridicule intelligence and scientific discovery.

The AFL-NFL Championship game was interesting for four years, when there were two separate leagues, each with distinctly different styles.

I've seen the SB a a few times since, but it never had that David vs. Goliath feel again. It became so overinstutionalized, rampantly commercial, and uncomfortably surreal. A good 90% of SBs are a major snore fest.

I don't like the idea of the NFL owning my Sundays/Monday nights/Thursday nights. My time is my own now. I'd rather play my guitar.

Say the name of a city, and immediately a sports team in that city comes to mind.

In schools it's ALWAYS been the jocks who got the best girls, and in egregious cases were able to cheat in their studies and almost get away with murder.

Far too many sports teams are owned by some megabucks billionaire, who can extort millions from an area to buy his latest toy.
(Like a stadium.)

Think this was any different in ancient times?
The best Roman gladiators were by our standards, billionaires.

"Ben-Hur" would have been able to buy his family's freedom and a huge villa with what he won in a chariot race.

I'm not sure about the boycott... I always feel like I'm being pretentious when it comes to those things. I would happily boycott things I don't like very well... you won't catch me in a country western boot store...but a chocolate ban wouldn't last very long in my house.

Just as is the case with high school and college football, there is a far better use of our time and money than this nonsense.

We have very real issues and abject consumerism and raw aggression is not going to fix it.

Guess what organization has lied, bullied and bribed those connected to concussion research and its impact on young athletes and adult players? Following the lead of oil industry on lead gas and tobacco industry on cigarettes, the NFL did everything it could to avoid and hide the data.
Guess what individual program gets the most funding in high school? The football program. (All this while music, art and drama are cut completely)
Guess who the highest paid state employee is in almost every state in the country? The state college football coach.

Even the Lady Gaga half time show is about her paycheck and abject consumerism and glorification of a lifestyle that 99% of people will never know.
