If Trump were to ignore the court and order Homeland to follow his orders and enforce the ban. little could really be done. The GOP has signaled the rest of us that they would support him and protect him based on what Ryan is saying. We need to remember that Congress would be the only check left.

If he disregards the Judicial Branch, there will be some GOP Congresspeople peeling off from their monolithic faithfulness for Trumpy. SOME Republicans will acknowledge the Death of the Republic is on the slab in governmental morgues. Their problem is that, as Trumpy functionally acts as Dictator, the GOP loses POWER. If Trumpy can ignore the Judiciary, he can ignore Congress. That will gain the attention of some Republicans, not all of them. But it might be enough to successfully impeach Trumpy's ass and get him removed from office.

(146,317 posts)that is not true for anyone else. The head of DHS and other cabinet officers are not immune from such findings.
The Judicial Branch is truly the last stop in the checks and balances implemented in the Constitution. Their power is massive and cannot be challenged beyond the SCOTUS.
They are our protection against unconstitutional actions by the other two branches.

(1,753 posts)Unfortunately, Trump and the Republican Senate will be spending the next 4 years making appointments to the judiciary, including the Supreme Court.
When the idiot Trump and the reprehensible right have corrupted that final check on the Executive and Legislative branches, we will in fact no longer be a Nation of laws, its citizens no longer subject solely to the rule of law.

(146,317 posts)I have fairly little confidence that Trump will serve four years as President. I also think that the 2018 mid-term elections may well change the balance in Congress.
In the meantime, the percentage of open seats for federal judges is small, compared to those already sitting.
Trump can't load the courts quickly, if he can do it at all. There's incredible inertia in our federal judiciary.
