Cheney's daughter slams Trump's 'deeply troubling' Russia defense

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is slamming President Trump’s comments in defense of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“.@POTUS statement suggesting moral equivalence between Putin’s Russia and the United States of America is deeply troubling and wrong,” Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, tweeted Sunday.

In an interview with Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly on Sunday, Trump defended Putin after O’Reilly said the Russian leader is a killer.

"I do respect him ... I respect a lot of people but that doesn't mean I'm going to get along with him," Trump said.

"There are a lot of killers. We've got a lot of killers. What, you think our country is so innocent?" Trump asked.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had a similar reaction as Liz Cheney’s to Trump’s comments. McConnell called Putin a “thug” and said there is no comparison between the United States and Russia.

“I don’t think there’s any equivalency,” McConnell said Sunday morning. “America is exceptional. There’s a clear distinction here.”
