Wanna know how I did that? It's easy, and it's new.
Turns out you can do it almost anywhere you can type on a website:

(6,261 posts)I've an ancient phone which can only text and make calls, and I'm getting lots of block characters in my texts from iPhone users which I'm pretty sure are emojis. I've backed them up into an .xml file and can see the unicode charcodes (e.g. #5567, etc) for them, but does anyone know a (Windows) app to display those easily?
I've tried pasting them into my browser without success.

(146,317 posts)one into a thread title earlier. I went and looked at the coding and realized it was a Unicode character, so I did a search for Unicode emoji and found that link. I'm not sure whether earlier versions of Windows support display of those characters, but it looks like most browsers do.
It was a pure accident. I'm a meat and potatoes user of PCs. I type and characters appear. I know how it all works, but don't pay much attention to the technology any more. I used to, but don't bother now.
The unique thing was that they appeared in a post title. No graphics there. Just characters. Now, since these emoji are just characters, they get rendered properly, unless the Admins turn that off by limiting the characters that can appear.
