Saw this on my FB feed - added the intro myself.
Use terms the right has co-opted and/or which resonate with the right: patriot(ic), protect (instead of regulate, for example), freedom and rights (i.e., right to marry), American dream, betray(al), (im)moral, (un)discipline (i.e., 45 is undisciplined and is betraying his voters and the American people)
1. Don't use his name (or follow the lead of Lawrence Fishburne and refer to him as "45"
2. Remember this is a regime and he's not acting alone
3. Do not argue with those who support him--it doesn't work
4. Focus on his policies, not his "orange-ness" and mental state
5. Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow.
6. No more helpless/hopeless talk
7. Support artists and the arts
8. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it.
9. Take care of yourselves
10. Resist!
11. Do everything you possibly can to see him removed from office.

I get why we should support the arts and artists, but there are so many more who need our support as well (Planned Parenthood, for example).
As I said, I didn't write it except to add the part about what language to use.

I'm also guilty, and will remain guilty of #1. His name is Donald Trump. Period. He's a Republican. Period. He got more votes in the primary than any candidate before him. Period. I refuse to call him anything else. As far as I'm concerned, calling him 45 or anything else takes the responsibility and ownership away from the Republican party. Let them try to distance themselves from him by calling him 45. If you don't want to call him by name, call him what he is: the Republican president or the head of the Republican party. They don't want to stand up to this asshole? Tie him around their necks like the albatross he his.

(5,022 posts)Sometimes it is all too easy in the head of the moment to react. I've found that being publicly shamed by a douche bag cousin who I don't respect but am friends with on FB became a powerful deterrant.
Good point about referring to him as the Republican President. For me it may depend on the audience.

(54,039 posts)We owe it to our country to uplift each other and separate our feelings for out country from our feelings about this corrupt government.
Remember that: uplift and separate. But the underwire of democracy.

(49,027 posts)We want our posts found, especially the ones quoted and linked to, which is what search engines work with.
"45" doesn't cut it because that number appears in so many contexts nobody will search for it. For example like '45 war' will find 1945, not tRump. But 'trump war' will find our posts about tRump and Bannon wanting war for their own reasons.
I often us "tRump" to convey what I think of him, and it is an orthography that does not interfere with the search engines (since case does not matter).
Sometimes I use Дональда Трампа which won't search well, but I try to include a "tRump" in the same post.
