How are you doing with all that water?
Word is that Rick Scott is not going to turn down the FEMA money

(2,049 posts)I am north of Ocala in Anthony. There is flooding all over north Florida, several sink holes have opened up in our area. Thankfully, my little farm isn't in an area prone for flooding but there are farms in Marion County with water up to the tops of the fences...hopefully their livestock has high ground to go to.

The rain should stop tomorrow - I cannot imagine the personal and state costs of this disaster but at least there will be employment for some folks.

(2,049 posts)so I'm sure they will be crazy after this. From what I am hearing, the damage will be significant for a tropical storm. I am just worried that this may be a small sample of what's to come this season.

(269,157 posts)and they said in 58 years no hurricanes had caused flooding like this.
Don't worry about what's to come - just be prepared for the worst.

(3,299 posts)There has been a lot of coastal flooding. St. Armands Circle and Mote were closed down from what I heard.
The "usual" spots that flood have again. The wife and I drove along the coast near Marina Jacks and the water was high but streets were passable.
A mobile home got trashed by the wind...lots of limbs down and some trees but nothing I'd consider major.
Some streets on Siesta Key were flooded and closed.
I'd guess everything will be fine tomorrow.

(3,299 posts)A glancing blow from a TS. It will hopefully act as a wake up call. When this area gets hit by a CAT 3 or higher it ain't gonna be pretty.
We also had some turtle nests uncovered which is bad as the little ones are starting to hatch. There were some little ones hatched down in Venice last week. This will probably hurt but I had heard from the Mote Marine people that this is a real good year for eggs.

(3,299 posts)I was here that year. It was forecast to come right over me till it veered
into Charlotte Harbour. Dodged a major bullet that year plus the other
three that year...

(269,157 posts)Drove through the area in 2005 on the way to see my youngest sister in Clearwater. There was still lots of damage. I think Central Florida got hit twice that year.

(3,299 posts)They had dropped the big lights on I-75 up near me as it was coming right at Sarasota County but left them up south of us. Then it changed course and all the light poles got snapped like match sticks.
We were lucky though, even though it was a CAT 4 it had a very small eye wall so the really bad damage was somewhat limited and there was no real storm surge as it moved so fast.
That was a "fun" year...
Everyone that ran to Orlando got hit by 100mph winds! I had some wind and a few squalls, nothing much at all.

(269,157 posts)I don't know what we'd have done with a direct hit because he destroyed Grenada before heading for us, devastated the Cayman islands and also damaged parts of Cuba and Alabama. That was a monster

People's lives and livelihood are at stake with these storms. It's not the time to take a political stand.

(24,376 posts)My truck is in the shop so I am taking the day off. Raining pretty much all day with a serious period of downpour late this afternoon.
Lots of street flooding around here and I saw footage of a portion of I 10 they had shut down - 6 inches of water on the roadway and NOT from a high river, just a lower section of the land that has no where to run off quickly. That was about 100 miles West of here, near Live Oak, Fl.
This has to be one of the wettest May/Junes I've experienced in a long while. I've had rain hit the windshield for the better part of the last 6 weeks.

Got very wet, somewhat muddy and had a blast.
The neighborhood is wet but we drain pretty quickly.
We have to pay to play, here in the sunshine state.
