(5,648 posts)who imposed sanctions against russia after the election because they allegedly interfered. he and the trump admin are lying about it in an effort to cover it up, calling it "fake news," and it turns out that flynn had ties and conversations with russia DURING THE CAMPAIGN, which was reported but largely ignored, and rachel surmises that this might have been how trump was elected in the first place. it is hopefully going to be investigated properly by SOMEONE.

I've never seen anything like it on any other website or forum ever.

(17,180 posts)You rarely see anyone asking for an explanation of a video; blind links - yes; unfinished exclamations about what folk are watching, right now on TV - yes. So if you're doing a Spicer, show me examples.
We are not without frequent malignant trolls so yes, some posts and their links/videos could be viewed with suspicion, especially if they are posted by a very new member.
DU is a community and like every other group of people who come together for a shared purpose, its up to the newcomer to instill confidence that they are prepared to accept community standards, not the other way around.
thejoker123
(279 posts)However, I will say I'm always seeing people pretty rudely or impatiently calling out a poster if they post a link to a NYT or WAPO article or what have you, along with a brief one line description, that doesn't include a written detailed summary, if not a full copy and paste of most or all of the article.
It's just so strange to me, as obviously clicking a link is as easy as breathing, and frankly no one should believe anything that's written without going to the source anyway.
That being said, indeed this is a community unlike most others, and obviously this is the way the members want it, so it's not my place to question it I suppose.
canetoad
(17,180 posts)That posts should give a passing nod to having some substance. DU abides strictly by fair use copyright laws which allow a user to paste four paragraphs of content. That's enough to make a decision to follow the link to the full article. Have you ever been Rickrolled?
Breathing is an involuntary action; clicking a link is not. We are sick of clickbait.

(49,034 posts)If a video is worth watching, then the poster of the video can find the time to sell their video.
They can take a few seconds to summarize what the basic thrust of the video is and why it might be important.
Like many DU members, I don't have time to watch every video thrust in front of me. I will take the time (a few seconds) to read a summary and open myself to being convinced to invest the time to watch a video.
It seems obvious to many of us that it is a community-minded approach to spend a minute writing to save members (multiplied out by readers) many minutes.
Alternatively, surely it is obviously good for the one poster to spend a minute writing a summary to convince hundreds (thousands?) of DU viewers, if the community really would benefit from watching the video?

(21,151 posts)They have phone records and transcripts concerning the Russian sanctions. This was soundly denied at first by several current WH officials. Now Flynn says he doesn't remember. (7,434 posts)Maddow's show pivoted around the Christopher Steele "dossier" on Trump. The new revelations that have been reported by the WP and the NYT confirm some of the information in the Steele dossier: that Russia's had ongoing communications with the Trump campaign during the election and before inauguration-- and possibly up to the present.
The WP and NYT are saying that Flynn was the Russians' contact person/asset. The 5 phone call day in which Flynn and the Russian Ambassador to the US conversed. Flynn denied talking policy or politics during that time-- in which Obama was placing recent sanctions on Russia. But the new revelations indicate that 9 present and senior government officials are corroborating that Flynn did, indeed talk with the Ambassador about those very sanctions, and that Russia is not to take them seriously because the incoming Trump Administration would lift them. Flynn then had to walk back his lie, after reportedly telling Pence and Trump that he never had a policy related conversation with the Ambassador. Flynn reportedly assured Russia that they didn't have to respond to Obama's sanctions, thus telling Russia that the sanctions were worthless.
But the Steele dossier said additional things that are of great concern, one of them was that Russia had been "cultivating" Trump as an asset for at least the past five years, and quite possibly longer. If true, then TRUMP is also a Russian asset!
Then there's the additional information not referred to by Maddow tonight: Paul Manifort AND Carter Page were both part of Trump's Campaign team up until September or October. Both have strong ties to the Russian Oligarchs AND Putin. So when you ask about spies, the more likely spies are Manifort and Page. Flynn was acting more like an asset than a spy. If a spy, he would have been more secretive about communicating with the Russian government. Frankly, I'm not able to understand how Flynn DIDN'T know that his phone conversations were being monitored by US intelligence. OF COURSE the Russian Ambassador's phone was bugged!

(7,434 posts)the incredibly damning information on Trump of late. It's information that they were all told, and it's a state secret. John Lewis and Nancy Pelosi were two Dems who had been asking for a release.
Maybe THIS information was the nugget of information that they were talking about. These may have been the blockbuster of revelations that makes the Russia/Trump relationship a bi-partisan issue.
Maddow had Adam Schiff, a Dem Rep, on the air, talking about today's news. Schiff is on the intelligence committee in the House. It won't get buried.
So far, the revelations are stunning.
Flynn will have to be fired. Pence and Bannon must be investigated because Congress is going to have to know who knew of Flynn's phone calls and when did they know about them. These questions will HAVE to be asked in a formal investigative setting. The Republicans won't have a choice.

fall in this scandal, more honest conservatives will not be able to avoid knowing it, and even many who pay little attention to politics.
And who knows--Comey is dirty as hell. We know that over the spring and summer Comey was watching the Russians spy on and steal from the Democratic Party during national elections, undoubtedly very aware of much of the Trump camp's communications and interactions with the Kremlin--all the while failing to notify the party and thus providing aid to a hostile foreign government. We also know that Comey personally interfered twice with the election in a way that aided the Russian efforts, something that raises the question of treason all by itself. There's sure to be more that we don't know. So Comey might just get caught up in this conflagration also. And wouldn't that be lovely?

(7,434 posts)Given what we know about Flynn's collaboration with the Russians, Comey's pattern of decisions is synchronous with Flynn's in that he knew about the Russian interventions, hid them from the public, but disclosed politically damning and false information about Clinton simultaneously. He did this with precision and design, and did so in a way that's entirely consistent with Russia's role.
IMO, Comey HAD to hide the Russia investigation BECAUSE he'd be implicated as a Russian asset. (IMO) the CIA knows this, but they've had to be careful not to blow the story because their information may not have been obtained through legal domestic channels. So the revelations had to creep into the public awareness through less conventional means. And it looks as if that's what happened tonight.
Trust Buster

George HW Bush used the War on Drugs to commit a reign of terror, murder, sabotage, and atrocity against Central America.
George W. Bush collaborated with Saudi Arabia to hide evidence implicating Saudi Arabian ties to 9-11, so he could lie us into a war with Iran. This, from Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, Chief of Staff to Colin Powell.
Donald Trump and his hell-spawn fascists collaborated with Putin's Russia to throw the 2016 election to Trump, and betray American interests to their own benefit. Trump has been installed as the 45th President of the United States of America.

Flynn was right by Trump's side during this meeting.
Soon after the meeting, the Russians arrested dozens of people that they said had engaged in espionage against Russia.
One of the people arrested was Sergei Mikhailov, a very high ranking Russian official. Russian agents dragged him out of a very public meeting of senior intelligence officers, in Moscow.
