Need help with my 2016 tax return.

I am one of those paid professional protesters paid by George Soros and, as you know, we are paid $1400.00 for each protest event. Last year I worked seven events - $8,400.00 (One of the checks was late and I did not get it in 2016 – it arrived in January – I will need to show that on my 2017 tax return).

Is this considered “Business income” or “regular income”?

Sad to say, while I worked the NY protest, I stayed at the Trump Tower (very soft towels) and only $900.00 per night.

Can I write this off as:
Business expense
Trump family bribe
Trump campaign contribution

Why do a return for taxes anyway?

You can just not pay them.

The IRS will be castrated and unable to deal with chasing you.

Everyone in the Professional Protesters Union knows that Soros' going rate is only $950/event.

Which, I admit, is a lot better than that cheapskate Trump who was only offering $50 to attend his inauguration and clap. And to add insult to injury, the checks bounced.

However, you can only deduct what the per diem rate for that city is.
Government per diem rate for New York City is $444 for lodging ($270), food and sundries.
Now, if there were no other hotels within 25 miles available, you might be able to claim the rest, but you really should have booked through Julie in travel; she'll make sure your availability waiver will pass audit for your claim and tax purposes.

I stayed at the Ritz. Too many rumors of bed-bugs at the Trump hotels.

Both as a regular employee and as a small business owner. If you're doing gig work like itinerant protesting, you really need to get make sure your 1099's are in order along with your itineraries, contracts and receipts.
A bunch of us have gotten together around here and pitched in to hire a tax preparer who specializes in small contractor work.
And of course, Julie the Event Assistant at Soros international Rabble Coordinations is the best resource at tax time if you're one of his associates.

Start a shell corporation called LLD Enterprises headquarted in Qatar. Transfer the funds to the corporation and pay yourself the $8400 as a CEO salary. Using the corporation as collateral, borrow $900 million to purchase stock in a Russian oil company. Hire subcontractors to protest for you and refuse to pay them. When the subcontractors sue you, have the corporation go bankrupt and declare a $900 million dollar loss, giving yourself $899,991,600 in tax free profits. Based on your demonstrated business prowess, run for President of a third world country.
