Certified news

Here's an idea that is long overdue and needed more than ever.

Two things that can be done to counter fake news...

1) news ratings- not what you think. Similar to how restaurants are ranked based on inspections, assign a rating to the news source I.e. A, B, C, F

2) use the rating and research based on validity I.e. Snopes, etc to certify the story.

3) trend over time and let the consumer weed out the liers.

Thoughts?

Who would be in charge of ratings? Even if it's "independent" it really isn't independent (look at the Motion Picture of America rating system). Who pays for it? I suppose you could force the news stations to pay. How often do they get reviewed? In the last month, how many new hires joined CNN? If this were done via something like Angie's List, you know that no one would post unless they were upset by something on the news that day. Also, how would this affect the news station's journalistic integrity? Sounds like an obvious question, but how many stories would be buried because the editor knew they were up for review (look at NYT not wanting to cover the dossier report)?

BTW: they already had a list of believable news stations/sites. I forget now who published it, but it does exist. Trouble is, do you believe the people who published the list?

It's like we need this, but I can see so many ways conservatives would mess it up. That's the way I've started thinking ever since November. Conservatives mess every single thing up.

Sorry...

Our nations are rated on their credit ratings.

Why not try a "rating" system with news sources?

If they start sharing fake news they go from A to D or whatever.....police their own industry. I say what have we got to lose?

It's sad, but it is necessary and will be necessary in the future. It needs to be simple so that even a caveman can understand😀. I hear too many people believing and regurgitating lies - it may be too late but something must be done.

that would go off when lies are told.
Seriously, ratings based on "truthiness" would be good, and probably
already exist. If they do, they need to be prominently displayed.
