I'd be thinking the organizers wanted to jab a knife in other
class members and twist it around a bit. But that's just me.

On the one hand, I do think that so long as there wasn't anything immoral in how the venue was selected, well, they should be able to use the process. On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't feel good walking to Prom under a Trump sign. It should probably be in a different spot.

(Class of 98). Prom was always at a country club, and the school rented coach buses to take students there.

I skipped my prom because it was the same day as a concert I wanted to go to (same price tickets) and I had more fun rocking out at a concert.

We fundraised for the prom and the ticket prices were after fundraising brought the expense down.

You can't just have your baby's gender told to you. It has to be a party with 50+ people, and a mystery revealed at the end! You can't just ask someone to the prom, it has to be broadcast on a stadium scoreboard. You can't take a vacation, you have to instagram and Facebook everything. Proms aren't just proms anymore, they're big, huge events. I mean seriously WTF.

But then again I'm so old crepe paper in the school gym prom was a great thing and my wedding dress was the nicest dress I already owned. Someone made cake and tied cans to his car and threw rice at us.

There's a young unmarried and pregnant couple in our building that used the clubhouse for a gender reveal party recently. They must have spent $6000 minimum. They say they can't afford to get married. I'm not commenting on the baby before the wedding, big whoop. But the marriage certificate fee is $25. I don't understand a huge shindig for "gender reveal" when they are struggling under school loans and beginner job salaries and what not.... plus a baby on the way. Save the money for actually necessities.

I'm old.

Never mind that you're broke and can't afford a decent wedding, $6K is a small price to pay for internet fame!

I think of that as a private thing. What if you had your heart set on having one, but the other is announced? I hate to have my reaction in front of everyone.

At the parties, often, there are special cakes made with pink in the inside for a girl and blue for a boy. So the sex is revealed when the parents to be cut into the cake. More proof that humanity has jumped the shark.

Why are these people so hungry for a bit of reality and humanity? Why does everything need to be public, produced and broadcast?

Damned kids trying to make memorable events even more memorable.

Ungrateful little cusses who never validate our own past experiences, yet instead create unique experiences for themselves (rather than us), new memories (relevant to them rather than us) and new traditions (for them to pass down, rather than us) for the next generation of conservative, older and stolid adults to whine about.

Seriously, WTF indeed...

Don't get me wrong I'm all for new ideas, but the "promposal" is quite possibly one of the more ridiculous ones we've come up with. I was at a Ducks - Flames game recently and I saw this first hand. And my reaction was "WTF did I just witness?". Now it's a reality show. I shit you not.

Shit we have reality shows about selling real estate.

I graduated in 1998. I haven't been on the school's property since my sister's graduation (2001).

It is a school in a wealthy area. The only people buying houses in the town now are Wall Street types.
