Mat Staver: Right Wing Watch Is Spreading Fake News By Quoting What I Said

By Kyle Mantyla | February 13, 2017 10:41 am

In recent months, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver has repeatedly attacked us here at Right Wing Watch for being one of “the biggest purveyors of fake news in the country,” but has never provided any explanation of just what sort of “fake news” he believes that we have supposedly been spreading.

But on an recent episode of the “Faith and Freedom” radio program, Staver finally provided some “evidence” by citing our post from last month featuring audio of him insisting that the terrorist attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando was not an attack on LGBTQ people and that first responders were traumatized because they had to “get tested for AIDS-related conditions because they’re literally walking in pools of blood.”

Gawker, although they were in the wrong legally, would not have gotten hit so hard if the plaintiff did not have a bankroll to push the suit through.

I have a family member who regularly cites right wing sources on stories and when challenged to produce a reputable source will decry that all other media is "liberal" and spreads lies.

This is the result of the right wing constantly putting it out there that the media is controlled by liberals, when in fact the media is controlled primarily by corporate interests whose primary concern is profit. There are outlets with better journalistic reputations, but there is no concentrated "liberal" media like there is on the conservative side.

I challenged this family member to define what the "liberal media" was. To name sources that were considered liberal and pushing fake news. The response was typical and sad stating that we had already had the discussion before so it was pointless. The question has never been answer, never defined. Liberal media and "fake news" is anything that does not directly support their views.
