How Bannons Navy service during the Iran hostage crisis shaped his views

It was just after midnight on March 21, 1980, when a Navy destroyer navigated by Stephen K. Bannon, a junior officer, met with the supercarrier USS Nimitz in the Gulf of Oman. The convoy headed near the Iranian coast, where a secret mission would be launched a month later to rescue 52 U.S. Embassy hostages held in Tehran.

Bannon’s ship, the USS Paul F. Foster, trailed the Nimitz, which carried helicopters that would try to retrieve the hostages. But before the mission launched, Bannon’s ship was ordered to sail to Pearl Harbor, and he learned while at sea that the rescue had failed. A U.S. helicopter crashed into another aircraft in the Iranian desert, killing eight service members and dooming the plan to liberate the hostages.

“I have the perfect word” for how the crew felt upon learning that the mission failed, said Andrew Green, one of Bannon’s shipmates. “Defeated. We felt defeated.”

As Bannon has told it, the failed hostage rescue is one of the defining moments of his life, providing a searing example of failed military and presidential leadership — one that he carries with him as he serves as President Trump’s chief strategist. He has said he wasn’t interested in politics until he concluded that then-President Jimmy Carter had undercut the Navy and blown the rescue mission.

I recently retired after 30 years in the Navy. 15 Enlisted where I rose to the rank of SCPO, and then 15 as a LDO Navy "Mustang" Officer, where I promoted to the rank of LCDR. Ran out of daylight before getting a "look" at O5, and was timed-out. Loved just about every minute of it BTW.

This Bannon asshat is an embarrassment to the Navy and to Naval Officers everywhere!

(Excuse me, but I'm going to use some Bo'sun language as I talk about Bannon)

This "effing" prick served 7 years as a junior Naval Officer. In other words..."I peed more water than he fucking sailed through".

7 years in means he was "maybe" a Lieutenant. You know what you have to do to make LT in the Navy? You have to be breathing and not have killed anyone. That's it!

- You do 2 years as an Ensign/O1, you get AUTOMATICALLY promoted to LTJG/O2

- You do 2 years as a LTJG/O2, you get AUTOMATICALLY promoted to LT/O3

Do you know why you get out after 3 years as a LT? It's because you got "passed-over" for promotion to LCDR/O4. The promotion percentage to O4 is about 85%. You have to 'try' to not make O4. Someone along the way. Some Captain saw this asshole for what he was and stomped on his dick when it came Fitness Report time.

C'mon Stevie...you're so "fucking" proud of your 7 years as a JUNIOR Officer...show us your Fitness Reports!

This "frickin' story makes it appear as if "fat-Stevie" was commanding a fucking Destroyer or something. He was a "fucking" JUNIOR Officer for God's sake.

I guarantee you this prick was as far away from the fucking bridge of a ship as his Commanding Officer could arrange.

If a failed mission with plenty of blame to go around is what it takes to make a person a racist, fascist, or bigot, then I have a question for Steve "Look At Me I Played Sailor" Bannon.

What do 19 Axe Body Spray wearing pricks with box-cutters tell you about "Presidential Leadership".

Fuck this entire story.

First - it makes it appear that Steve "I can't get into my Dress Blues" Bannon is some kind of fucking Admiral Zumwalt.

Second - it just an excuse to blame President Carter (A True Naval Hero) for Bannon's Nazi views.

Fuck this story and the prick who wrote it.
