McCain: Focus on Flynn 'sucks the oxygen right out of the room'
By Mallory Shelbourne - 02/14/17 04:27 PM EST

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday that focusing on former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s resignation takes the focus away from other top issues, such as repealing and replacing Obamacare.

"It sucks the oxygen right out of the room. It really does," McCain said, as reported by the Washington Examiner.

"We should be talking about replacing Obamacare," McCain said. "We should be talking about tax reform — and we are talking about it, but that's not the issue that is dominating the news."

The comments come one day after Flynn resigned from his post following reports that he misled White House officials regarding the content of discussions he had with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. about sanctions, discussions that took place before Trump's inauguration.

In a statement released earlier Tuesday, McCain said Flynn’s resignation shows the type of “dysfunction” currently going on among White House national security officials.

"At the same time, General Flynn's resignation is a troubling indication of the dysfunction of the current national security apparatus," the senator said in the statement.

McCain reiterated this point to reporters on Tuesday.

"It’s a dysfunctional White House. ... Nobody knows who’s in charge and nobody knows who’s setting policies,” he said, according to a reporter from The Guardian.

he could be on to something here. Why was Flynn, with all his baggage, even there? Perfect patsy, fall guy if you will. Look squirrel. Hey, what is that shiny object over there?? Meanwhile, Orange Julius keeps on trucking his agenda through the Congress. I am beginning to think he makes himself easy to underestimate to set up his opponents low expectations. You do not win when you run with the herd.

Every single one of these GOPers is saying the same thing: this is a distraction, this isn't that big of a deal....the GOP has now shown that they couldn't care less about national security or the legitimacy of elections. They care about power and only power. This should be extremely clear to the country now, sadly, it won't be.
