The tipping point depends on when each Republicon's fear for the toxicity of the brand in 2018 and 2020 overcomes their greed and power-lust that tRump has kicked into overdrive.

Oddly enough it died just as George Bush jr. took office. There is a thing called a Special Prosecutor. Unfortunately that person is appointed by the Attorney General or Congress. Both of those are controlled by people that either won't appoint one or would only appoint a pro Trump shill.
Even if there were still an OIC, that person would be appointed by a panel of judges who were themselves appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. That guy is a republican conservative.
