Last time I checked, we were not at war with Russia since congress did not vote for war. So, he can be convicted of a number of crimes related to spying but not of treason. If its a high enough crime, after the senate vote to remove him, he could face criminal penalties including prison but I doubt it will ever get there.

If suspected of crime, first remedy is removal from office. Articles of impeachment voted out of the house is essentially the "indictment." The "judge" is the Senate. They determine what the "trial' will look like and vote whether or not to remove (convict).

Once removed from office, the former pres can be indicted and prosecuted if the "high crime" that necessitated removal is a violation of criminal law. If found guilty, that's when they would go to jail.

There are those who argue that US pres is not immune from prosecution. An article on the subject:

I'll answer my own question. Yes.

Here is one in NC; Bernie Madoff is incarcerated here.

And of course his cell-mate would have to be "the most tremendous cell-mate" in the world.

Melania would take the money and run.

Electoral fraud is the biggest one. If they can prove he was in contact with Russian intelligence and Russian intelligence is proven to have manipulated the election in his favor, that's a crime; if he had his underlings do it, that's also a crime.

If they can prove his people fraudulently flipped the election, shit gets really entertaining: they can charge him with theft of pay for the months he was in office, theft of services, illegal use of government facilities (Air Force One, the White House, the motorcades...) and so on and so forth. That shit gets expensive because not only do you go to prison and get fined, you have to reimburse the government. Also, he needs to reimburse Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine, Merrick Garland, Hillary's entire cabinet, and her White House staff for the pay they lost while Trump was pretending to be president. I figure seizing and selling all the Trump properties in New York and Chicago should take care of it.
