On April 4, at least 90 theaters will show the film because April 4 is the day that Winston Smith, the main character, begins a diary."<

(25,895 posts)and didn't think it was very good.
None of the three versions of that movie are any good, in my opinion, and I don't know why. The first two were made in the 1950's and suffer from really low budgets. The 1984 one seems to miss the point of the movie. It was Richard Burton's last film and he's terribly miscast. I think he plays the O'Brien character.
However, lots of people will go see it and be reminded of what it depicts. And actually, in the book the totalitarian government quite successfully erases history and changes facts. It depicts a world in which there is no hope whatsoever that things will ever get better.

(17,984 posts)about wanting to create a musical 1984. It came to me when I couldn't get the image of a line of dancers singing:
It was a bright, cold day in April...
And the clocks were striking 13...
And I think I could come up with a good song about room 101:
Everyone knows,
Everyone knows,
Everyone knows...
What's in room 101...
The rats will eat your face
There's terror in that place
Everyone knows,
Everyone knows,
Everyone knows...
What's in room 101...
