Life has has to be challenging enough for a transitioning or transgender person in freaking public school and now Trump is only adding to their burden.
And if this ban is implemented writ large are we going to have someone stationed at every restroom to check people's private bits? Wow, did they think this through?

(146,331 posts)It's being used as a symbolic issue, and that is a shame for the very people who would benefit from access to facilities they choose, based on their gender identity. That's especially true for transgender and transitioning kids. Nobody wants to be a political football, especially young people who are dealing with peer recognition of their gender identities.
The numbers of people who are affected by this controversy are very small, proportionally. In most cases, their fellow students either ignore the issue altogether or are supportive. The people pushing the issue are simply pushing a larger agenda they seem to have about anyone who is not normative.
It's a false issue, being raised purely for political reasons. I detest that. The people pushing gender assignment restrictions don't really care about which bathrooms transgender people use. That's not what this is about. It's about a much larger issue having to do with people who do not conform to traditional roles. It's an issue based on fear and loathing.
My sympathies are with the young people who are being used as ammunition in this battle. They don't need that additional crap laid on them. It's toxic.
