In Florida there's the Baker Act which allows someone who has been deemed to be a risk to themselves or others to be involuntarily held for up to 72 hours. At the end of that time, if they are still at risk, it goes before a judge who signs commitment papers. Mental health professionals and doctors can Baker Act someone. I don't believe law enforcement can actually Baker Act but they can and do transport individuals to the facility where they may be Baker Acted.
