55-year-old first-time voter who chose Trump protests large increase in health costsAfter voting for the first time at the age of 55, for Donald Trump, Martha Brawley is worried that the main issue that brought her to the polls, health insurance coverage, is going to become worse.
"I'm 55. This is the first time in my life I voted, and I voted for Trump hoping that he would change the insurance so I could get good health care," she told ABC News. "I might as well have not voted."
Brawley reportedly receives approximately $8,688 in health care subsidies per year to pay for insurance, but under the proposed bill, she would receive $3,500 a year in tax credits, according to the Times.

(3,847 posts)Maybe she should have practiced throughout her life so she would know how to do it.
Not an ounce of compassion for this person who floated through the first 55 years of her life blissfully and then decided Donald Friggin Trump was what would get her off the couch. Carry that shame to the grave, it's all yours.

(1,462 posts)If LyinRyan has his way, 75 will be the new 55. Maybe we've been striving for the wrong thing all these years. Instead of increased life expectancy we should aim for a middle of the road expectancy and that will free up a YUUGGGEE burden on Medicare and SS!
Seriously this woman bought snake oil so while I do have sympathy for her, I doubt she would show the same in return. Hope she enjoys ChumpCare which will most likely be even worse than LyinRyanCare. ChumpCare is do nothing and just let ACA fail. I doubt this woman fully understands the FU that Trump is really sending her.

(146,320 posts)is also tough shit for the gander. People vote stupidly. That's a given. But we need to educate, not mock. Mockery is a losing strategy.

(146,320 posts)something. I don't know her, so I can't help change her. If I did know her, I'd be working on helping her see the alternative.
See, if you call her a "worthless asshole," you'll sure not help her decide to look more closely at her voting habits.
Think about it, please.

(194 posts)You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into, and she clearly didn't. People like that don't change unless something affects them personally. If she gave a fuck about anyone other than white Christian Americans that she knows personally, she wouldn't have waited 55 years to vote, for cripes sake. Until she feels the pain herself, no other evidence will move her. Let it begin.
We've been trying to "educate" ignorant bigots like this since Reagan. The end result is a Trump presidency. Think about it.

(146,320 posts)to be our side, now didn't we? I believe that also played a role, especially since we lost only by very slim margins in three states we should have won fairly easily.
There is blame to share in Trump's electoral college victory. Indeed there is. I'm far from blind, my DU acquaintance...

(194 posts)Every time I go there to see what's being discussed, I have to take a shower. So many people who claim to be progressives have been completely played and manipulated by right wing propaganda to the point that they are unredeemable.

(23,711 posts)I am convinced the majority of Trump voters, voted for him because they wanted to get the Muslims, Mexicans, Central and South Americans out of the country. They swallowed his lies about building a wall that Mexico would pay for and providing affordable health insurance for everyone. Now their hate has come back to bite them in their asses.

(81,383 posts)It's awfully hard to feel sorry for her. It's not as though she wasn't warned. It's not as though trump made it SO plain what a lying cheating thieving scumbag he is. There was plenty of evidence all over TV, night after night after night. (Unless of course she only watched Pox Noise and listened to hate radio, that is.)
I keep thinking about that old fable of the fox and the scorpion.
The scorpion wants to get across the river to the other side, but can't swim.
He sees the fox, that can swim, and sales-pitches him. "Please Mr. Fox, can you help me get across the river? I can climb up on your back while you swim, and we'll both get there just fine!"
Mr. Fox says: "um... you're a scorpion. You'll sting me and I'll die."
Scorpion says: "Well, that wouldn't make any sense! It's commonsense that if I did that, we'd BOTH die. Including me! So why would I do that? Commonsense, commonsense, dontchaknow."
Mr. Fox is convinced. Drops his guard and his own GENUINE common sense, and says "okay then, you make a good point. Climb aboard. Let's go!"
They get about halfway across the river and guess what happens.
Yep. The scorpion stings the fox. Right there where they are, in the middle of the damn river.
As they're both, indeed, drowning, Mr. Fox turns to Scorpion and says "WHY did you do that?!?!?!?! WHY did you just sting me? Don't you know we're both gonna die now?"
Scorpion just shrugs. "I'm a scorpion. That's what I do."
The GOP is the Party of SCORPIONS. Led by the SCORPION-In-CHIEF. And if we don't do whatever it takes to get him IMPEACHED AND REMOVED FROM OFFICE, we're all gonna drown in the middle of that river.
