they should NOT comment, and they haven't: 'there was no indication that anyone at the Justice Department had given the White House that assurance.

Asked whether Mr. Trump was in fact the target of an investigation, the official offered a “no comment.”'

the WH to assure the public that, based on information from the justice Dept, there is no ongoing trump investigation.

Not sure why they came out with it. Maybe something Spicer said about 'no reason to believe trump is being investigated by the Justice Dept'.
