That's the message I get from this photo. Does anyone else see that kind of malice in this expression?

(146,320 posts)it seems to me in the OP photo. High-resolution photography is a wonderful thing, I think.

(146,320 posts)I'm not sure what we'd talk about, but I suspect we'd find a topic.
Oddly enough, even though they don't look alike much, she reminds me of Julie Christie in the temperament she typically shows. Here's Julie Christie at 71:

(7,768 posts)Sorry, off topic from Melania, (and I don't mean to highjack this thread) but I just watched Cate as Mary Mapes in 'Truth'. What a performance.
And then a totally different role for Cate in 'Carol'. Terrific 1950's film based on real-life encounter by author Patricia Highsmith.
LOVED both films and love Cate Blanchett!
MineralMan
(146,320 posts)I commented to my wife that I though she would be one of the great actresses after that film. That turned out to be very true. She's very versatile and seems to be able to take on any role, really. Few people saw Oscar and Lucinda, and I recommend it to all Cate Blanchett fans if they haven't seen it. You get a great glimpse into a young actress who was bound to succeed. It's a good movie, too.
I thought her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth should have gotten her an Oscar that year, too.

(5,611 posts)has more than demonstrated her phenomenal acting chops with multiple academy awards now and many outstanding films to her credit. Gwyneth Paltrow (who beat out Cate that year for a film I dislike, Shakespeare in Love) has mostly vanished from the serious movie scene.
I guess I am rather interested in Tudor history (haha, I'm an academic who specializes in medieval and Renaissance literature so I should be!)

(1,148 posts)Part of it might be the lack of intense sunlight, but I think part of it is a healthier attitude toward aging.

And Rooney Mara...wow, no words for her acting either. Terrific.

(111,305 posts)and she probably didn't need it but her oaf of a husband insisted on that Miss Universe look and probably thinks that "windswept," over tightened plastic surgery look is exotic.
Dolt45 has never forgiven women for aging, for having their bodies changed by childbirth, or for anything that changes them from barely legal arm candy into real women.

Picking apart her makeup technique?
Now here's someone worthy of scorn.
Seriously, 45, get a haircut. Neaten that shit up so it doesn't catch the wind. If that part that was blown over were removed, he'd actually look a lot better. He's 70 years old and should not be wasting time attempting to retain his silky flowing ginger locks. Isn't there a barber on call in the White House or MarLago - the "Winter White President's Dream House" or whatever the fuck you're trying to call it?

(2,120 posts)... I leave Melania alone. She's not the problem and certainly must have her own demons to deal with, such as the one she's married to. I consider her more of a tragic figure than a villainess.
I bash Trump constantly on social media and have already declared her off-limits. Same with Ivanka, but if his sons act like dickheads then I will call them out on it.

(5,175 posts)Agreed! "Free Melania"! (Sign spotted at women's march in Santa Fe NM) I would say she is not responsible and cannot be ridiculed for the horrors her dipshit husband is spewing out.

(22,340 posts)I think that is a lot of what goes on there. Ethnically, my heritage is totally slavic. So, frankly, I find that look pretty damn attractive. Fully realize she is a horrible person, but she has a very strong, gorgeous Eastern European look to her.

(115,783 posts)I see heavy makeup, botox and plastic surgery; it's doubtful she can move her face in a natural manner at all any more. She's already past her sell-by date - previous wives were younger than she is now when he dumped them. If she wants to maintain her lavish lifestyle she'll have to do whatever it takes not to look too "old" for SCROTUS (which seems to be about 35). And have you seen her boobs? Nobody of any age has natural boobs like that. They look as unyielding as soccer balls. They won't ever need to make an effigy of her for Madame Tussaud's; they can just prop up the real thing.
She was rather pretty as a young woman. Now she looks like a Barbie doll that got left at the bottom of the toy box.

(51,308 posts)Seems the OP was looking for a reason to talk about older women getting "mean looking". And making reference to a woman looking like a witch is a not so clever way of calling her a word that rhymes with it.
Comments about her make-up? I do hope the OP is a perfect wrinkle-less man who looks good in every pic.
Smh.
