(47,565 posts)And yes, they have cameras...lol. There's a touch-screen on the door and if you click the right shit it shows you what's inside along with info on what it is, when it's going bad, whether you're running low on it, and if you are running low, it'll actually order it for you. Wouldn't want one, but it was a fun toy to play with. Like I said, totally amazing.

(6,496 posts)I forget about those. I usually think of the gaming systems as computers and so normal for them to connect to WiFi...same deal with modern TVs and DVD/blueray players.

(30,151 posts)in 10-20 years everything will be a LOT different.
Pirelli are putting small chips in tires that will send info about tire pressure, mileage, wear etc. back to servers and then to an app on your phone.
Your water filter on your fridge will need replaced, fridge will contact Amazon, your account is setup to automatically deduct. New filter shows up next day right as your old one needs changed. Easy Peasy-

(60,010 posts)She was telling me about it a couple weeks later.
"It even can tell me when my tires need air...how does it KNOW that??" She was totally amazed, cause she barely can use her computer. "Only for emails".
and ...lol....I was in the car with her, and she had to back down my driveway.
the car has a tv screen you can use when you are backing up, which is something I would find easy to use.
she did it the old fashioned way, head out the driver window.

But, it's just easier and more flexible to remote monitor via one's cell phone.
This way, you ensure constant surveillance.

A guy I work with has a Chevy Tahoe and had OnStar enabled. He was speeding down the interstate one day, doing 80 in a 65 zone. He said that he starting hearing a beeping sound. Then, a voice came over and asked him if he was OK. They noticed he was traveling at a high rate of speed and wondered if he was being pursued or was in trouble. My coworker got so pissed off, he told them, "No man. I'm late for work." He then told the guy to disconnect the service.

(32,093 posts)But, it's not connected to the Internet.
I don't see the attraction to any of these connected appliances, except maybe for TV. But, I'm watching on a 25-year-old cathode ray tube set, so any of the new TV technology is very attractive to me.
My converter box turns itself on by itself every so often. Hmmmmm....

(4,522 posts)We are having a new heat and air system installed. The company offered a "free upgrade" to a smart thermostat and seemed genuinely confused as to why we refused.
