(16,125 posts)If you have a microwave, fridge, place to live, cardboard box under the highway underpass, sleeping bag, shoes, etc. You are far to wealthy to ask for help paying for your insurance!
Oh, these people are awful. They want to destroy everything that is decent about this country.

(31,261 posts)Maybe a lot of really rich 81 year olds, but republicans and Trump view that as a great society.

(2,434 posts)when I turned 64, but I was making twice as much. Didn't make it any easier to pay the premium and I just counted the days until Medicare started. I will not rest on my laurels and think that since I'm okay I don't have to worry about anyone else. We are all in jeopardy w/ this crazy man at the helm. I will do all I can to resist and rebel.

(20,878 posts)Income is abt. $15K a year! That would leave me with $1,600 a YEAR to live on. Not possible, I would die without the insurance I now have which is Medicare with a costly supplemental plan provided by my former employer that disability retired (aka dumped) me 6-weeks after my DX.
I get a miniscule $50 a month as a pension from them and health insurance at least. That was the best I could get at that time as I was very very sick and unable to fight them. Therefore, today I am grateful to have the insurance as it covers both me and my husband!
I seriously hope things do not change too much as I'm living on the brink already as my husband gets very little from SSA, abt. half of what I get. He's a vet and he got screwed badly and he is too old to fight them at this point in his life and simply does not care!
Too bad for him and me too as I am indeed part of the overall picture!

(20,878 posts)@ $575.00 gross/month.
On edit: I now pay $105/mo.
Household total per month: $209.00 not including supplemental needs.
Supplemental plan for two: ~$1100/month not including co-pays and deductibles.

(14,337 posts)At 65 it was $104/month unless you had an income over $85,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a married couple. It went up to $109 this year. However, if you were collecting full SS at 66 and having your Medicare Premium taken out of your SS check, with the small COLA increase this year, nothing changed because of the Hold Harmless Clause of SS. Your SS cannot go down due to increased Medicare Premiums under that law.
All that happened was that I did not get any COLA SS increase. Better not tell the Republicans about that Hold Harmless Clause of SS or they will eliminate that too.

(33,023 posts)She has a pt retail job, she would drop her Obamacare Ins as soon as she can, and under the proposed new Notrumpcare/ryancare if she gets sick/hurt before SS Medicare will kick on for her at age 66&1/2, she will never be financially able to cover health care for herself. When she & I have discussed this, she gets overwhelmed & angry.
