Republicans believe in "State's Rights" ... except when they don't

California will go to war with tRump's EPA if they try to rescind California's right to make its own stricter standards on automotive emissions.

The Trump EPA Wants to Gut California's Clean Air Rules

In its ongoing jihad against federal regulations, the Trump administration has indicated some interest in targeting the ones that attempt to fight climate change. First in its sights: a funky law that gives the state of California the right to make its own rules on automotive emissions. But because of the way laws and business work, the California exemption is one of the most powerful environmental tools in the world.

So California's not going down without a fight.

A quick history lesson: When legislators wrote the 1963 Clean Air Act, they acknowledged that California already had pollution-fighting rules, and that its environmental situation was especially dire. So they gave the state the right to write its own, stricter standards.

"It's hard to overstate how important the ability for California to set its standards has been to public health and clean air over the past 40 years," says Don Anair, deputy director for the clean vehicles program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. "Time and again, California's been willing and able to move forward."

control of the locals. It is easier to blackball people from jobs, their retirement income, and healthcare coverage for those who do not go along in corporate control. Unfortunately for them, the Constitution and Bill of Rights establish certain rights nationally.

The GOP believes in getting and retaining power. That's all.

One red herring that they've used in the last century-and-a-half is this states' rights BS.

They'll say anything to get their way and they'll say the exact opposite the next day if it helps them.

It's not even worth calling them on this because they already know they're lying and they don't care.

Abortion guaranteed protection under the US Constitution, states rights issue. Protecting the environment IN your state despite what the President wants, federal issue.

Except when it's something they don't like, or agree with. Then it's time for BIG, intrusive government to step in and put a stop to it! States rights, indeed! 🤐🙄
