Look at how this story is playing in the NYT and WP. Look at the comments of Charles Blow, Michael Moore, Rob Reiner. Rachel is trending #1 on twitter tonight, and not in a good way.

Rachel did Donald Trump a huge favor tonight. He'll probably send her a gift basket full of cheap Trump products tomorrow.

I love her 99% of the time. But tonight she f-ed up. Not by reporting the story - but by hyping it as being a BOMBSHELL 90 minutes earlier.

the Russian ties so they would all understand it, and since the reward for them listening was some of the tax info, they probably hung in there and learned something they didn't know.

She made sure they knew it was legally obtained, verified it was real by the White House even though she didn't have a lot, it's possible more could come over the transom later.

The main point is she educated people who usually may not watch her show.

Yes, it was over-hyped, but so what?

She did an hour and Lawrence did a half hour on Trump's taxes. That's a good thing, and reminds people that he broke another promise, and perhaps some laws. There maybe wasn't a lot of "there" there tonight, but we know there is more. Every business deal (at least in the US) that Trump has done must have involved a look into his financials, including tax filing information. Sure, it's all "confidential" but it's out there, and it is prone to be leaked.

Perhaps the most important thing said on the shows tonight was just that. There is more out there, and there are people looking for it. That's not a good combination for Trump.

I already see negative press about Maddow.

So, if I start thinking like a Republican, I'm suddenly outraged more than ever Trump still hasn't released his tax returns. Replace Benghazi with the outcry "tax returns" and "former USSR hacking destroying America" and "treason". Presume guilt.

20. Eh... If the doc came from Trumpy, that's all. It means that Trumpy's

trying to snooker them. It might not work if that's the case. There will be more public demand for showing the returns. The pressure could build, and with Congressional investigators inching toward a subpeona, any increased exposure to this issue won't help him.

Trumpy, however, in his supreme arrogance, may think that he can flip people around with impunity. Never know. The "Client Copy" stamp may mean something if it was on the original, but it may have been stamped on the paper after the fact. If that's Trumpy's copy, the chances that he sent the document himself increase.

But...

If the docs didn't come from Trumpy, then there WILL be more documents to be leaked. Someone's got or did have access to records, and got more than two pages.
