5. Stephen Bannon's plan to destroy the US Government

We've seen Donald Trump try to delegitimize the Judiciary by questioning their independence and their judgments.

We've seen Donald Trump try to delegitimize the Intelligence Community.

We've seen Donald Trump try to delegitimize the Fourth Estate.

We've seen Donald Trump try to delegitimize anyone he perceives as an enemy or opponent.

Why wouldn't he try to delegitimize the Legislative Branch? With his penchant for Executive Orders, why would he want to work with a co-equal branch?

Perhaps he wants to convince enough people that he's the only one who can save America...

6. Maybe thinks Ryan would sabotage Trump/Pence to be closer to Presidency?

They are paranoid and Ryan has not been consistently pro-Trump. Also Trump & Co. always blame a scapegoat for their failures and incompetence

8. I think the veneer of civility between the two simply masks an underlying issue

There's some bad blood between the two; each playing a variation of "more Conservative than thee."

Ryan represented the kind of establishment Republican that Bannon has made a career of vilifying, and often referred to Ryan as 'the enemy' in many of his own editorials. Bannon, when still in charge of the white-supremacist newsletter, Breitbart, had mentioned more than once his desire to destroy Ryan, as well as doing his best to deny Ryan re-election last year.

I think the veneer of civility between the two simply masks an underlying issue-- Bannon believes Ryan is a political sell-out, and Ryan think Bannon is vulgar and witless... a barbarian at the gate.

10. Destruction of GOP
Wed Mar 15, 2017, 03:34 PM

Bannon has been quite public about his desire to see both parties destroyed...
the best way to do that to the GOP is to exacerbate the philosophical divisions within ....
once the GOP sub-groups turn on each other ...
the next step is for the members of each sub-group to fight amongst themselves....

What better way to facilitate such internal chaos ?

Put GOP in position where they have a common focus ... Get rid of Obamacare...
then make sure the vehicle (AHCA) contains provisions which will not be popular with certain GOP sub-groups
Let them fight over those provisions...
and then ensure failure of any GOP success by removing 45 support from equation
And leaving Ryan (spokesperson for all future bills proposed) as the unsupportable scapegoat .....

Effectively.. cutting the head off of the congressional GOP

These are all good. Another reason is a more practical, less conspiracy oriented reason - to use him as a scapegoat for future failures. Trump, malignant narcissist, has never sincerely faulted himself for anything ever. Any legislation that fails will be someone else's fault.
