There is a reason that basically the entire Eisenhower family switched parties to become Democrats. And they didn't do it during the Nixon era, even though they weren't generally fond of him.

4. i think it goes back to the southern strategy. while Nixon and others used it as a strategy to win

elections they did not really have an intention of turning back some of the social advances once they got into office.

but this has resulted in the republican party being mostly social conservatives and Obama becoming president and winning re-election really made them lose it.

and they blamed the republican party for not stopping it.
