Earlton 'resistance fighter' pleads guilty to gun charge in federal court
ALBANY An Earlton man who thought of himself as a "resistance fighter" who wanted to start a Greene County-based militia pleaded guilty Monday to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of New York.
Robert Twiss, 59, admitted on Oct. 24, 2016 he had a Plainfield M-1, Model 41 semi-automatic rifle, the U.S. Attorneys Office said. As a convicted felon, Twiss was not allowed to have the weapon, the U.S. Attorneys office said.
Twiss also told an FBI informant that he planned to destroy the Federal Emergency Management Agency building in Albany with a binary explosive, according to the federal criminal complaint issued last October.
Twiss told the informant and special FBI undercover agents about a number of topics including how Twiss thought of himself as "a resistance fighter," the possibility of an Armageddon-type situation where Twiss would destroy the FEMA building in Albany and how he could make "improvised explosives" with Tannerite, a binary explosive used in firearms practice.
