"Cries from Syria" and "Race," about Jesse Owens, together give a thunderingly deep felt sense

of the grim authoritarian control by Hitler and Assad/Putin. Seeing and understanding in our minds what's happening in our country is one thing. That we are at a grave pivotal point
has never been more clearly felt than after seeing these films. Highly rec seeing them back to back if you haven't seen them yet.

Injustice in the US is the primary focus in the Owens film, and the counterpoint of Nazism is handled more subtly, almost background. How much authoritarian background are US citizens willing to accept?

I came away with a far greater understanding of what's happening there, and the struggle of people vs power. It is timeless and universal.
