this is a not uncommon dynamic in family businesses, where the founder is no longer up to the job for one reason or another, but refuses to relinquish control. so he creates a mess, and the children clean it up, often keeping the founder in the dark as to the details of concessions made to keep clients, etc.

donnie's no doubt hoping that familiar dynamic can work in politics, but it seems unlikely to succeed with so much media scrutiny. this is not at all like a private business.

But it is powerful, when it happens. Some girls end up with privilege, which I would imagine makes it even harder to break through the denial.

Privilege? Ivanka is the Crown Princess, and everyone knows it. Her husband is Prince Consort. Her brothers are off doing something useful, I am sure Her stepmother is living elsewhere, tending to her little prince. But the emotional core of the dysfunctional family unit is Father and Daughter.

She just knows how to say all the right soothing things to the increasingly Mad King. So does her husband, according to stories from the campaign trail.

My guess is you're absolutely right about "emotional incest." I could, of course, be wrong, but I suspect he may have never pushed his interest beyond anything she could field without offending him, like gracefully slipping away as his hands found her hips during the Republican convention. 37. Bizarre situation

Aside from the obvious innuendoes that this situation conjures up, thanks to Ivanka's father's history with her, this is a highly unusual and, frankly, quite bizarre arrangement. She has no official duties, no title, she owns her own business (supposedly), and has her own family, yet she is apparently settling in to some type of caretaker position for her addled father.
Now none of this would be unusual except for the fact that this is the White House and her father currently holds the job of POTUS - as much as I hate to admit that.
Theories abound, but I think that he's paranoid and really doesn't trust anybody. This is probably a safe stance for him to have with the likes of creepy Pence and Bannon lurking around and an approval rating in the toilet.
So now the daughter's role is apparently to provide at least one trusting voice to the beast as the walls close in around him.
Truly a bizarre and astonishing spectacle.
