On a plane today from Venice to Brussels

An elderly woman was reading the local newspaper. As we were landing I noticed the headline in Italian was about trump and the hearing. I put my thumb down on thumps name and she said in English she was also against thump and worried about the anti EU and immigration thing going on in Europe. She was particularly worried about Le penn. she said her house cleaner likes what Le penn is saying about immigrants. Her house cleaner doesn't read newspapers only watches the news that comes on before her novellas. She tried to reason with her employee that she needs to read instead of watching tv for news. We both agreed that is the problem nowadays. People don't read and only gets canned news from tv. That's what's happening in the US people only watch news not read newspapers or magazines ito get critical insight. She commented on seeing me reading a dense book and that she rarely sees people read books nowadays. She was going to visit her son in Brussels and was impressed to see me reading a book. But I was stuck how astute she was and spot on. We parted ways but I will remember this conversation and her insight.
