(50,954 posts)The ingratiating insincerity oozes from him.
I wouldn't have a difficult time imagining either of them having someone tied up in their basement.

(6,551 posts)And Franken did a fine job in making that point. He showed no patience in letting Gorsuch work his typical smarmy schtick.

(3,256 posts)He's nothing but a hack from a connected family. Franken was always ahead of him and he was prepared. I believe he wanted the job on the supreme court so bad he went after it and their is a contact somewhere that can verify he was into Trumps reelection up to his ass and the appointment was his reward. He was groomed to take the job by his handlers. That look on the screen shot shows what an evil prick is. The part of the truck driver case that the press doesn't seem to understand was that they claimed he abandoned the load. If you have an abandonment on your record you cannot get another job. So the driver would lose his career if pricks like Gorsuch had his way.

(65,174 posts)Can't trust him on anything. Under the radar wingnut IMO. We should oppose him even if they take away the filibuster. After all, Trump is under investigation and Garland got no chance! Way to go, Franken.

(1,733 posts)fucking nope.
That guy is lower than a snake.
He's another culture warrior type who's out to put a yoke on every working man and woman in the US of A in an attempt to remake society in his image.

(29,251 posts)"I don't think you have to state your political views... this is in the Constitution... you can express an opinion on this."
To which Garland gave a totally BS answer but good on Franken for the effort.

(42,862 posts)He's just so calm and collected. The perfect setup and delivery!
Al Franken makes me PROUD to be a DEMOCRAT!
With his razor-sharp wit and his laser-beam focus, he's able to get directly to the heart of the matter without making a spectacle of himself and without being a total asshole either! (Gowdy and others could take a lesson from him, if you know what I mean.)
Franken is one of those Democrats who's interested in doing what's best for the country, and for the people. He's not grandstanding for his own benefit, here. He's not trying to be the center of attention with theatrics and absurd behavior.
Franken excels at finding someone's weaknesses and exploiting them. He puts Gorsuch on the spot and backs him into a corner and lands a knock-out blow.
Senator Al Franken (D) understands who our enemy is... whether it's the individual Republican players, or the collective Republican party... Franken is one Democrat who understands the importance of weakening the enemy and their party.
I love this light-hearted moment at the DNC where Franken is talking and Silverman is busy mugging for the cameras! "Shoulders back, chest out, head to the side, smile!"

(42,862 posts)... frustrated. Always on-point. His folksy and down-to-earth manner is disarming and puts people at ease (rather than making them feel "attacked" and defensive). He stays focused and avoids the bluster and biliousness other politicians often rely on. Franken is skilled at doing his job, without trying to make HIMSELF the "center of attention". He's unassuming.
He's a Democrat who makes me very proud to also call myself a Democrat.

(11,087 posts)truck? I remember hearing about this case. It became famous for the absurdity of Gorsuch's dissent. Alphonse Maddin was ordered by his company to stay with a trailer with frozen brakes, despite his increasing symptoms of hypothermia because the truck's heater didn't work. Rather than die, he unhitched the trailer and went for help, and the company fired him. The Tenth Circuit Court ordered him reinstated with back pay, but Gorsuch dissented.
Well, it was discussed on DU back in January: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028575272

(32,640 posts)When he said, "I'm not God," I think that Sen. Franken had to bite his tongue not to thank Gorsuch for clearing that up for everyone.
