"The House intelligence committee investigation of the Trump campaigns alleged links with Moscow looks in danger of unravelling as a result of the unexplained behaviour of its chairman, Devin Nunes, a former Trump adviser.

Such behaviour reportedly includes an unexplained disappearance from an Uber ride with a staffer on Tuesday night, described by his Democratic counterpart as a peculiar midnight run.

The investigation subsequently appeared to stall, with Nunes calling off a critical hearing scheduled for Tuesday 28 March, at a time when his Democratic counterpart on the committee, Adam Schiff, said he had seen more than circumstantial evidence of collusion between the Trump camp and Russia."....
"At the hearing, Comey refused to name any of the campaign aides under FBI scrutiny. Schiff, the ranking Democrat, said he and Nunes had been given a classified briefing that involved evidence of collusion that isnt purely circumstantial.

First I've heard about the unexplained Uber thing.
Sounds like someone having a meeting with a handler.
But wait, there's more!
"Hours before the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee announced his shocking claims about surveillance of the Trump transition team on Wednesday morning, he practically disappeared.
Rep. Devin Nunes was traveling with a senior committee staffer in an Uber on Tuesday evening when he received a communication on his phone, three committee officials and a former national security official with ties to the committee told The Daily Beast. After the message, Nunes left the car abruptly, leaving his own staffer in the dark about his whereabouts.
By the next morning, Nunes hastily announced a press conference. His own aides, up to the most senior level, did not know what their boss planned to say next. Nunes choice to keep senior staff out of the loop was highly unusual."

Begs the question - does Nunes really think he is slicker than the F.B.I.?

(714 posts)DONT LET ANYONE SEE YOU DO ANYTHING. That's like, spycraft 101 or something. Especially don't let your underpaid, underappreciated, overworked staffers see you do anything.

(47,586 posts)in every sense. They were easily compromised, possibly blackmailed, and even threatened Russian style. I don't think they had any idea what they were getting into. Perhaps they were dazzled with all that Russian money that often flows so freely throughout the world, they failed to notice the strings.

(714 posts)The millennial generation is more educated, more involved with volunteer work, more racially diverse, and more economically oppressed than any other generation of Americans for the last hundred years. They're also more liberal than their parents, which is where the problem comes in. For a long time here, we've had a see-saw effect, where in general each generation was the opposite of it's parents, as for as liberal vs conservative ideologies are concerned.
This set up a sort of oscillation in our government, where it swayed back and forth, liberal to conservative and back again. But that didn't happen with the millennial. They're more liberal than their parents, who were more liberal than their parents.
So a bunch of cuckservatives pissed their diapers while thinking that they might be seeing the end of their political party as they knew it.
So they cheated. They didn't really know how to cheat, so they went to the Russians. And still f***ed it up.

(47,586 posts)Love it!
I also think greed clouded the vision of many. Some had really good lives and they were willing to compromise that for money and power. Preibus could have gone on being RNC chair and Jeff Sessions had a secure seat in the senate (more than someone of his limited talents could hope for). I have watched so many hop on that Trump Train and wondered what the hell they thought would come of all this.
Many of them know how to cheat American style - little white lies and voter suppression, etc., but I don't think they were prepared for the Russian Mafia style cheating.

(714 posts)It's not even at the level of bad TV.
If this was a novel or a script, it would be rejected as ridiculous and unbelievable. Hard to believe there are so many functional dumb people in the world and these particular ones have access to great power.
