What if Trump acted like a normal president while pursuing his reactionary agenda?

(52,317 posts)much as i'm thrilled that the republicans "leadership" is such a fustercluck that they couldn't even get a bill through their own house majority on their signature issue of the last 8 years, we're still in a terrible position.
one thing we can hope for is that they'll provide their own obstruction, delaying the destruction a more competent and cohesive republican party could have accomplished. that said, they'll still unleash great destruction in the next 4 years.
that the focus for incompetence is on donnie is unfortunate. certainly he is horrible in many ways, including incompetent as well as unethical. that said, the republicans' problems run much deeper.
if it was merely a matter of an inept president, congress could figure it out themselves easily enough. but they can't because they're also incompetent and divided as well.
the focus on donnie is unfortunate because once he goes, whether in 4 years or sooner, republicans are set to get a clean slate and a forgiving electorate when they deserve nothing of the kind. we have to somehow convince the media that the problems aren't exclusively with donnie.
it's the whole republican party.

(52,317 posts)at least if they ever figure out how to construct executive orders that stand up in court....
in theory any executive order can be reversed by the next president, but in practice it can take a long time to rebuild. for instance, he could effectively shut down the epa (even if congress doesn't act to formally eliminate it). the next president could start it back up, but it takes time to hire back people and to reopen investigations and so on.
in truth, the damage he does in 4 years alone just within the executive branch could take a decade or more to reverse.
but yeah, i'm hoping democrats are able to filibuster his nominees and slow everything to a crawl....
