If tRUMP goes, I hope they have enough to get Pence out also. But, then we're stuck with Ryan, but I believe even if Ryan wasn't in on the Russia thing from the beginning, somewhere down the line, he had to have known...because Nunes went to him, and it was Ryan who asked Nunes to go to tRUMP with the info! Let's get them all out of there!!

(9,426 posts)McConnell prevented a hearing last year, saying "The next president will choose the Supreme Court nominee" HE KNEW who that would be. I would LOVE to see him frog-marched out of office, straight to prison. How many of them knew in the middle of last year about the Russia connection? How much were they PAID (since $$$ is the only important thing to them) to keep quiet? Such TRAITORS.

(49,002 posts)The only way Ryan gets forced in is if both tRump and Pence resign simultaneously or are incapacitated simultaneously or some combination of the two.
If tRump resigns first, Pence accedes and appoints a new VP.
If Pence resigns first, tRump appoints a new VP.
In 1973, Spiro Agnew resigned as part of a plea deal to extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy. Nixon appointed Ford as VP.
In 1974 Nixon resigned and Ford became President and he appointed Nelson Rockefeller as VP.
I doubt very much Ryan wants to be Gerald Ford, who served only 2 years and lost to Carter in 1976 (analogy is 2020). He'd rather be a Reagan defeating a Carter in 2024.

(9,512 posts)in the context of a trump resignation, impeachment, or arrest all hell will break loose and nothing will be certain. pence and ryan could be under investigation too. we are in uncharted territory.
mass demonstrations could highly influence the process.
i would assert that an extraconstitutional solution (like new elections) might be considered, particularly if we know more about the russian interference in trump/pence's "election."
i would also assert that any solution that is not acceptable to the people (not just the powers that be) could result in revolt.

(2,108 posts)to us through the Constitution still rewards Republicans.
All we've left if/when the impeachment(s) occur is to emphasize their shame and hope it takes enough wind out of their sails that they finally govern humanely, with a demonstrable spirit of compromise.
That, and a good shellacking at the midterms might restore some sanity.
