Chief of Staff Reince Priebus appeared to telegraph that approach Sunday by repeatedly saying on Fox News Sunday that they need to reach out to moderate Democrats.
"The last 48 hours were about letting the dust settle, and the next week will be about talking to Democrats," said another senior administration official who was involved in pushing the health care bill on the Hill.

Doesn't it seem really doubtful that the hard right would allow him to go moderate. Surely every interested faction, both official and those hiding in the shadows, in this country and out, has something on him.
But could this mean extremists like Bannon, Ryan, Mercer, Kochs, "Freedom caucus), etc., are losing much of the influence they've established on him? He just moved his more moderate son-in-law up...

(99,710 posts)This is the guy who was willing to throw 24,000,000 people off of health care as late as Friday, many of whom will get sick and die, so he could have a "win".
It reminds me of the hapless sporting goods store owner in the Sopranos who got in a business deal with Tony to pay off a gambling debt and lost not only his store but his family. And this guy's kid was a friend of Tony's kid.

The idea that Trump is going to get a GOP Congress encumbered by the Hastert rule to spend a trillion dollars on infrastructure while simultaneously cutting taxes is fanciful.

(24,736 posts)That's why it must be "serious." Right now I'm trusting Schumer, Pelosi, Bernie and other leaders on our side to know and do the right thing.
Hell, Bernie said as much yesterday on health care.

So, we intsead of Interstate highway 95 that runs from Maine to Miami, we get The Wal-Mart and Exxon-Mobil Thruway, with all rest stops required to have ExxonMobil gas and food from Wal-Mart's Neighborhood Market. Oh, and tolls will be quadrupled in most areas, but heavily traveled ones (Boston to DC) will be increased ten fold.
And, we have the Goldman Sachs Airport at Newark, with a new $20 per head toll on top of other fees.

(9,267 posts)I'm all for infrastructure spending IF it's done in a way to give people good jobs and not to shovel $$ into huge corporations. I have no problem with Dems working with Dolt 45 if the end result is something we want that makes things better for actual people (not just shareholders).

But, sure, we'll be willing to genuinely work with them again. And we'd be the ones who could refuse to vote if we didn't like the final product, just not lying and deceiving that it was fine before.

Funny how karma has a way of making her rounds. Can you imagine him saying to his piranhas at his rallys, "we need to reach out to moderate Dems?" They would tear him up. But, here comes karma.
While I am in the "hell no camp," I look at my kids and think that's not the way I want them to be. We may be "too nice", but it's because we genuinely care. So, I say, sure we'll work with you, but there will be ground rules first. And we won't be shy if we suspect betrayal. (good luck with that)

They will just want lots of contracts and bankrupt the government. Make them increase taxes first then we write the bill.
