What exactly is there to approve of? The failure at repealing Obamacare? The Failure of a WALL idea? His meeting with Merkel where he wouldn't even look her in the eyes? The constant Russia conspiracies? His DOJ Sessions committing perjury? Holy hell, this state is dumber than a god damn box of rocks. First the BAC lowering to .05 to appease the LDS cult, then allowing 18 year olds to concealed carry, and now this. Living in Utardia is getting to be bad for my sanity. I always look longingly at sane neighboring states such as Nevada and CO, and wonder why I had to be born here.

Washington President Donald Trump's approval rating is increasing in Utah a majority of registered voters now view him positively even as his numbers nationally have sunk in his first two months in office.
A Salt Lake Tribune-Hinckley Institute of Politics poll finds that 54 percent of registered voters say they somewhat or strongly approve of Trump's job performance while 41 percent disapprove. In January, just before Trump took office, a Tribune-Hinckley Institute poll found 46 percent favorability for the incoming president and 52 percent unfavorable.
The poll was conducted March 15-21 by Dan Jones & Associates among 605 registered voters statewide and has a margin of error of 3.98 percent.
Utahns' view of the Republican president are the polar opposite of the national take on Trump where a Gallup tracking poll has shown a dip of 9 percent in approval rating since he took office Jan. 20. Gallup now shows 54 percent of Americans disapprove of the president's job performance compared to 45 percent who said the same thing in late January.

(5,829 posts)While Utah legislators keep trying to reclaim areas designated as parks so they can destroy them by leasing to oil & gas extraction industries, their tourism bureau touts the same areas as great to visit.
Now this supposedly most moral of states favors a pathological liar and serial sex abuser. Disgusting.
The founder of the local cult was a pathological liar, arsonist, and serial sex offender/pedophile. It all makes perfect sense when you think about it.

(23,317 posts)Had a 2nd grade teacher make me stand up in front of the classroom to tell the class why I did not attend CTR class after school with all the other Mormon kids or wear a CTR ring. I had a complete melt down while the class laughed and my mom had to come get me. Total trauma.
On another note, Utah is the highest consumer of internet pornography. They're messed up.

(2,404 posts)My personal experience with Utah is driving through on a cross country trip years ago. The unfriendliness is palpable. All other states people talk to you, ask you where you're from, where are you headed, make recommendations for restaurants, attractions, ect. Felt like we were met with stony stares and stony silence.
It's unfortunate, because it's a beautiful state. The scenery is breathtaking.
Strange too, given how Romney was treated. And the behavior from the so-called is hardly pious. Weird bunch.

(23,317 posts)I'm wondering if the manager even asking you that question is illegal. Looking back, I'm sure it was against some law for a public school teacher to terrorize a little kid about their lack of attendance in an after school religious class. My parents talked to the principal but didn't go further. If that happened to my kid, we'd be lawyering up and raising hell.

(18,868 posts)Mormons are like anybody else. There are really nice people and there are some really awful people.
I went to high school there and people were really nice to me.
But the presence of the all powerful church is always there.

(2,955 posts)We even have a lesbian mayor. The problem is we're still bound to the decisions of the church. Nothing gets done in Ut without the approval of the church. If SLC could become a separate state, then yeah it would be a nice place to live.

(18,868 posts)one time. We were just driving through town when church let out. We were hippies. People just stood and stared at us. We had to stop for gas. That was pretty scary. If those small town police had picked us up no one would have even known we were there.
I graduated from the UofU in anthropology. I really never had a problem. But most of the Mormons I knew in college were Jack Mormons.
I did go to high school with mostly good Mormons and they were always polite. Not overly friendly but polite.
I was there in the early 60's. It was probably a lot more conservative back then than it is now. And the church controlled everything. But I don't think they controlled the University. That is where all the dissenters hung out.
